Job Description:Leidos is currently seeking a Director of Revenue Accounting to join a dynamic, multi-national company with a key role on the Corporate Controller Team.
We are looking for an energetic, team player with an expansive accounting background for the revenue recognition and related transactions for a wide variety of product and service offerings. This is a highly visible and impactful position that will be expected to collaborate across a wide variety of groups on key initiatives of the company. Excellent written and oral presentation skills are necessary as this role will be expected to present to C-level executives regularly.
In this role, you will lead a Global Revenue Accounting team overseeing all aspects of the revenue recognition process and covering all lines of business and jurisdictions in which the company operates. You will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategy to transform Leidos' processes to monitor customer contracts throughout their lifecycle in order to meet emerging opportunities and risks. You own the company's revenue recognition policy and provide expert guidance to internal customers on accounting for complex revenue arrangements and related financial reporting.
You will support key business partners by providing relevant guidance during the customer acquisition process and subsequently monitor the performance of all customer contracts. You must be able to act as a valued and trusted partner with the business in order to collaborate with key stakeholders and bring transparency into both the determination of required accounting treatment and implementation of processes to accurately recognize revenue.
Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Develop, administer and advise on the company's accounting policy for revenue recognition
- Work actively with auditors to ensure that company revenue recognition interpretation and internal revenue guidance are consistent and compliant with GAAP and all technical pronouncements
- Provide expert analysis and guidance on revenue recognition and related accounting issues
- Develop and maintain processes to monitor the Company's customer contract population for non-standard, unusual or new contract terms or offerings that could affect the recognition of revenue
- Create processes to identify new and emerging risks in the customer contract population
- Leverage data analytics, develop reporting and key metrics in order to monitor the performance of the company's customer contracts and triage areas of risk
- Develop and mentor all members of our diverse and geographically disbursed Revenue Accounting team, provide opportunities for professional growth and enhancement of technical knowledge and experience
- Provide training, both formal and informal, to accounting and group finance teams
- Monitor and ensure the accuracy of Estimates at Completion (EACs)
- Actively participate in monthly and quarterly close activities, including monthly reconciliations of all revenue and deferred revenue accounts, calculation of Backlog and preparation of revenue related financial disclosures
- Develop and maintain SOX compliant controls over the revenue recognition process
- Support the Controller team with special projects and workflow process improvements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university and at least 12 years of experience in Accounting field.
- Prior experience working in public accounting from a large national firm and/or Big 4 public accounting experience
- 6+ years' experience managing complex revenue arrangements and/or long-term percent of completion type contracts is required
- Prior experience should also include Audit and Technical Accounting/Accounting Policy focused experience
- CPA required
- Analytical minded person with ability to understand business operations able to quickly pinpoint areas of focus / risk
- Prior experience leading a team with diverse backgrounds and experience levels
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills are required, experience presenting to C-level executives is a plus
- Ability to travel, including internationally (15% -20% anticipated)
- Self-directed with proven ability to research complex issues, work independently, and multi-task several projects efficiently
- Strong focus and prior experience on process improvements
- Problem solving and strategizing capabilities
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience accounting for business combinations and integrating acquired businesses
- Experience using Deltek/Costpoint
- Government Contracting experience
