As a Manager, Visual Systems Design, you'll flex your typography, color, iconography, and animation design muscles to bring to life the Design Language that is the foundation for CarMax's brand-defining and industry-leading digital properties. You'll sweat the little details, focusing on every pixel to deliver new UI atoms, molecules and organisms that contribute to a much bigger whole. Your work will enable and empower Product Teams across the organization to deliver customer experiences that are cohesive, recognizable, and reinforce the brand. You'll rely on user-centered design principles to produce high-quality visuals and component libraries-from concept to execution. You'll work closely with fellow designers and engineers to constantly refine the CarMax design language, and create innovative, quality products that people love to use. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Partner with Visual Systems Design leadership to advance the visual direction of the experience, including visual style, technical tooling, and design system scaling with input from product and development teams, as well as stakeholders Establish a high-output workflow that is deadline-driven, with meticulous attention to detail that enables component transitions to the teams you support Communicate effectively in a cross-functional product development team and present ideas and designs effectively Be an ambassador for the Design Language, partnering with Product Teams at every opportunity to enable adoption, seek input, and solicit contribution Contribute to the UI Kit and Component Libraries that make it possible for Product Teams to build using the CarMax Design Language Manage, mentor and train junior members of the design team on industry and CarMax best practices Develop and implement processes that strengthen the adoption and development of the design languageQUALIFICATIONS: Experience designing intricate and cohesive visual design systems that contribute to a unified user experience across multiple customer touchpoints Good listener, and experienced with brainstorming techniques that help build consensus among a large, diverse group of stakeholders Collaborative and team-oriented work approach Solid understanding of user-centered design processes and ability to balance customer needs with business goals and metrics in developing solutions Ability to convert ideas quickly into design artifacts Experience with design tools that help translate ideas into working products, including, but not limited to: Figma, Sketch, InVision, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, and Keynote (Experience in Adobe After Effects and Lottie would be a plus, but not required) Experience designing and prototyping native app and web solutions for a range of screen sizes/resolutions and platforms: mobile, tablet, desktop, native, etc. Foundational understanding and experience with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) that inform your design decisions and partnership with front-end engineers Ability to perform design critiques and supply objective feedback to others Experience managing, training and mentoring others in design methodologies and best practices Experience with Agile development processes E-commerce experience a plusEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 5-7 years of experience within the fields of product, interaction and visual design BA/BS degree or equivalent practical work experience A link to an online portfolio showcasing your work (Include link on your resume) that demonstrates your experience creating elegant, thoughtful and comprehensive UI experiencesTECHNICAL SKILLS: Have an understanding of: front-end development best practices; Atomic design principles; user-centered design process; usability and user research methods; data analysisWork location is flexible if approved by the Company except that position may not be performed remotely from Hawaii or ColoradoAbout CarMaxCarMax disrupted the auto industry by delivering the honest, transparent and high-integrity experience customers want and deserve.
