Job description

Job Summary/Objective: The Patient Care Technician/Lab Technician will assist the providers in the care of patients while utilizing clinical skills to perform duties appropriate for the level of training. This position also supports other clinical staff by assisting with overall care of patients and families in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Assessing patients and identifying actual and potential patient care needs.
  • Ensuring rooms are clean prior to bringing patients to a room.
  • Completing accurate, concise documentation in the patient's chart in a timely manner.
  • Conveying respect of patient's rights and treating all patients with dignity and compassion.
  • Converting weight from pounds to kilograms and documenting in the chart appropriately.
  • Collecting and documenting patient vital signs, as well as pertinent medical information, and promptly relaying out-of-range vital signs to the provider.
  • Administering medications as ordered under the supervision of the Registered Nurse or Provider.
  • Assisting in the duties required to properly open the building to receive patients.
  • Performing weekly maintenance on autoclave.
  • Cleaning ear wash system after each use and bleach clean as scheduled.
  • Assisting providers in daily tasks such as returning patient phone calls, calling patients with lab results, and documenting appropriately.
  • Obtaining lab samples using safe standard procedures and accurately documenting completion of procedure.
  • Performing quality control tests and patient tests as ordered by provider.
  • Properly disposing of materials, including biohazard materials, in appropriate locations.
  • Maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Participating in mandatory trainings and attending staff meetings.
  • Communicating effectively on the telephone and in person.
  • Practicing and promoting positive customer and peer relations while fostering a learning work environment.
  • Practicing cost containment for the practice and patient.
  • Reporting all parent/patient complaints to the manager in a timely manner to allow for appropriate actions to be taken.


Required Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • One year experience in pediatrics (preferred)
  • Emergency/Urgent Care experience (preferred)
  • Certification from an approved Medical Assisting program (preferred)
