Primary Purpose:

The Financial Planning Analyst will oversee all aspects of the annual budget process for the entire Transforming Age system. The budget is a critical tool for management to operate the business in a fiscally responsible way. Oversight of the Budget process includes developing and implementing the organizations budget policies and designing effective budget models or use appropriate software to produce the annual budgets for system. Position is responsible for the Annual Budget package that is presented to the Board of Directors for approval. In addition, the position will be responsible for preparing financial projections and forecasts for the system.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Oversees and controls all aspects of the annual budget process for the organizations, budget and any entity under a management contract with Transforming Age, to include training, provisioning of data, analysis, challenge sessions, process improvements, and preparation of budget package for the Board.
  • Designs, develops, and implements budgetary principles and guidelines to optimize the budget.
  • Manages the budget models and/or budget software used in the annual budget process.
  • Understands 3rd party reimbursement principles and other key business financial drivers of the entire Transforming Age system, including Medicare and Medicaid programs, insurance contracts, and their applications in the financial statements for system's entities.
  • Analyzes the variances between actual and budget, produces reports for management, and highlights key causes of unplanned variances
  • Analyzes and monitors current and past financial trends to assess performance against key industry metrics
  • Prepares financial projections and models as needed (for example, for repositioning a campus).
  • Provides assistance with any reporting of financial projections to outside parties.
  • Prepares financial analyses and special projects as requested.
  • Assists in annual audit, actuarial reports, and financings as required.
  • Works closely with operational team members and leadership.
  • Attends and/or participates in Transforming Age Accounting Department meetings and other ad hoc teams, as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Advanced understanding of accounting principles and reading financial statements.
  • Must have outstanding communication skills, problem solving skills and ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all employees and leadership in a team- oriented environment.
  • Strong presentation skills required - i.e. self-confident, comfortable with public speaking and of a teaching mindset.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of the key business drivers of each entity and which budget assumptions impact those drivers.
  • Uses discretion in handing confidential information.
  • Extensive experience with mastering Microsoft Excel and navigating financial software systems, including having the ability to extract necessary data utilized in the budget process.
  • Ability to travel to all Transforming Age communities in the nation as needed on occasion throughout the year; valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.

Education/Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required, CPA and/or MBA highly preferred but not required.
  • Minimum five years of experience in an accounting and/or financial role, and ability to work independently.
  • One to three years' experience in a role that required financial analysis.
  • Must possess proficiency and efficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • NetSuite and Vena software experience a plus (not required).
