Job Summary
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. May open or close the pool as a regular assignment. Provides leadership as needed in the absence of a Supervisor and/or Director.
We have two available shifts, options are included below.

YGS will comply with all WA State mandates regarding COVID vaccinations.
All YGS staff are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID regardless of work location. Religious and Medical Exemptions will be considered at time of hire.
Responsibilities:
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintaining constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness. May perform duties related to opening or closing the pool.
Provides leadership and direction to Assistant Lifeguards as needed. May act as aquatics "lead" on shifts as needed in the absence of a Coordinator and/or Director.
Develops positive relationships with participants and parents.
Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
Performs chemical testing when not guarding , as required, and takes appropriate action.
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
Performs routine maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness.
Checks pool and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems.
Sets up and stores equipment for recreational swims and assists instructors with set up.
Maintains aquatic program areas and equipment with a high attention to cleanliness and safety.
Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
Conveys basic information on YMCA programs and schedules to members and, as appropriate, refers members to other YMCA programs and/or staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
18 or more years of age.
Current state approved first-aid certification.
Current state approved CPR certification - Pro or Basic Life Support.
Lifeguard certification - YMCA or Red Cross. *
YMCA of Greater Seattle scanning training or equivalent*
Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.
Must be observant and able to react calmly, quickly and with good judgment in an emergency.
Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
* If Red Cross certified, must complete Y Lifeguard certification class within 90 days of hire.
Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
Expected Hours of Work: There are two shifts available, both must be vailable for at least one weekend day shift (7:45-2:45pm)
Opening Shifts: Mon-Fri 5:45-1:15pm and one weekend 7:45-2:45pm
Evening Shifts: 3:45-8:00pm and one weekend 7:45-2:45pm

As of October 6th new Full-time and Part-time employees will receive a $600 bonus, which will be paid in one lump sum, after working 120 hours.
