Job description
Our client a leading supplier of fruit juice concentrates, servicing both domestic and international manufacturers is currently seeking a Food Technician to join their Bothell WA team. This is a direct hire position that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO benefits and Educational Assistance programs to those that qualify.
Position(s): Food Technician
Location: Bothell WA
Days: Monday-Friday
Shifts: 630am-430pm
Rate of Pay: $24-$25/hr
Duration: Direct Hire
The Food Technician is responsible for working with and assisting others in the product development department. Position tests and prepares samples and formulas; prepares and proofreads supporting technical documents; perform maintenance and cleanup of lab; maintains flavor database and samples; and provides technical support when necessary.
Duties:
- Process and prepare samples for standard sample requests. Decide what ingredients and level are required to create finished products that meet a customer's need. Follow-up with customers as needed. Communicate with sales and customer service on samples and formulas as needed.
- Prepare and proofread supporting technical documents related to sample requests. Follow up and communicate with others on items as needed.
- Perform maintenance and clean-up on lab area and equipment. Maintain inventory for lab samples and usage. Organize and order ingredients needed by group to prepare customer samples. Accurately process orders in a timely manner to ensure ingredients are available. Work with Operations for additional samples as needed.
- Manage and maintain flavor database and samples. Ensure database and documentation are up-to-date and accurate. Work with research and development on creating and maintaining ingredients for blends.
- Travel to provide technical support to internal and external customers for the purpose of scale up testing, sales and marketing visits, or industry related events. Develop and maintain professional relationships.
Knowledgebase:
- Lab and pilot equipment, including process equipment and process and product testing requirements.
- Sound understanding of food science discipline.
- General understanding of food laws and regulations.
- Mathematics and scientific weights and measurements.
- Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Abilities:
- Duplicate formulas and make changes to existing formulas to meet target flavor profile.
- Accurately document formulas, specifications, and operating procedures.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, financial reports, legal documents, and procedure manuals.
- Accurately perform mathematical and scientific calculations.
- Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Speak in public and professionally interact at a technical level with internal and external customers and industry peers.
- Write presentations and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Use computers and computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related field.
