Job description
Viome is a wellness as a service company that applies artificial intelligence and machine learning to biological data - e.g., microbiome, transcriptome and metabolome data - to provide personalized recommendations for healthy living. We are a small, interdisciplinary and passionate team of experts in biochemistry, microbiology, medicine, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
This is a High Complexity CLIA Certified Laboratory, and this is a hands-on position that will be located in our Bothell, WA facility.
Responsibilities
* Routine specimen testing in all of the sub-departments of the CLIA laboratory, namely The Reagent department, SSLA department, Sequencing Department, LH department, and accessioning and Sample prep department
* Running controls, instrument and reagent calibration, proper documentation and recordkeeping of daily, weekly and monthly maintenance performed on all the equipment involved in specimen processing.
* Using sterile technique, and proper usage of PPE.
* Performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of laboratory tests.
* Be familiar with System Operational Procedures and ensuring all laboratory regulatory requirements are met.
* Be familiar with both automated and manual/ hybrid test procedures.
* Follow System Operating Procedures that govern biosafety and biosecurity in the workplace
Qualifications
* Be comfortable with using independent judgement and can prioritize without direct supervision all the time.
* Have a comprehensive knowledge of laboratory quality control and comprehensive knowledge of procedures and principles of performance improvement in order to manage reagent and supply inventories and documentation thereof
* A general knowledge of laboratory equipment and ability to maintain, troubleshoot and perform minor repairs. Know how and when to contact technical support for guidance during instrument malfunction.
* Ability to plan, organize, set priorities, work as a team member and effectively complete assignments
* Skills required for proper specimen collection, including preparation, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, and storage of specimens
* Knowledge of GLP/CAP/CLIA practices
* Working knowledge of reagent stability and storage
* An awareness of factors that may have an influence on test results, and the skills required to assess and verify the validity of test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results
* Support Research and Development Staff by preparing reagents and samples for testing
Education and Training Requirements
* Doctoral, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
* Have earned an associate degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
* Be a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technologist).
* ASCP certification preferred but not required.
