We are currently seeking candidates for an Analytical Chemist to join our team in Paterson, Washington at Columbia Crest Winery.
What you will do:
- Provide analytical support for SMWE cork approval process, including sample preparation and instrument operation
- Provide analytical support for detection of wine spoilage microorganisms and their chemical markers, including sample preparation and instrument operation
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair specialized analytical equipment such as GC, GC/MS, PCR, etc.
- Ensure accuracy of and SMWE access to analytical results
- Develop and implement new analytical methods at the direction of analytical services management
- Refine and improve existing methods using continuous improvement principles
What you will bring:
- S. degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Enology, Food Science, or relevant scientific discipline preferred
- Minimum two years analytical experience in food or beverage industry
- Proficiency in analytical instrumentation, method development, and data handling
- Safe handling of laboratory chemicals
- Experience working in ISO 17025 certified laboratory environment
- Computer literate and competent with MS Office suite
- TTB Wine Chemist certification, or qualified to obtain certification within first year of employment
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds of weight
- History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.
