Job description
Serving as a true business partner to the CEO, the Head of Finance will have the unique opportunity to be part of a growth manufacturing and product business, driving key strategic decisions on product, brand, manufacturing, systems, processes, team and all else relevant to Company's success. The goal - "76 by 26"
He/she will be responsible for finance, risk management, information technology, and administrative functions of the Company and will contribute broadly to strategic and operational decisions to improve the financial performance of the business with facts and data-driven analysis. More specifically, the Head of Finance is the primary driver of overall business planning with the goal of achieving the appropriate revenue and margin targets, with an eye towards creating greater efficiencies in production and effective ROI-based multi-channel marketing and sales. Financial stability is found through a healthy balance sheet, responsible growth, long-term debt reduction, cost containment, and diversification.
The Head of Finance will oversee the short-term analysis required to optimize decisions in the allocation of resources across human and financial capital, notably working closely with IT in the short-term to deploy existing systems throughout the organization to enable robust cash flow and financial forecasts. He/she will consistently interact with core members of the Company team to deliver information both proactively and reactively as the key executive overseeing an accounting team of 4. He/she will be an important leader responsible for creating an engaged, inspired, and connected culture where people value the quality of the product and feel a connection to the consumers.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Serve as a strategic partner to CEO and Leadership Team and proactively offer business analysis that results in better decision-making.
• Own the balance sheet, be responsible for enabling and supporting profitable growth, manage long term debt, cost containment and diversification of the business.
• Consider Company's financial position on a wholistic basis and provide wise counsel relative to capital allocation in growing the business.
• Help anticipate risks and opportunities throughout the Company's operations and systems.
• Participate as a key member of the Leadership Team and support healthy, informed decision-making geared towards
growth.
• Lead annual and long-term budgeting process.
• Ensure budget owners have regular reporting at the appropriate level to manage spending versus Plan.
• Provide leadership and direction in cost accounting and reporting.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial statements are issued monthly or as needed by CEO, Board, or other Stakeholders.
• Create financial forecasts for key stakeholders.
• Ensure KPI metrics are reported in a timely and accurate manner.
• Be a hands-on leader - work with and develop the accounting team and upgrade talent as necessary; maintain a best-inclass team that embraces the Company culture.
• Manage all accounting and IT personnel to increase their engagement and commitment to success.
• Create a motivated and effective finance team that collaborates well with other functions and enjoys embedding the acumen of finance and KPI management into the business.
• Responsible for the Company financial ERP and related systems, optimizing the ERP system across the entire Company to support the growth and roadmap that is in place.
• Understand and make best use of company systems, encourage, and educate the organization to do the same, and upgrade
and/or supplement where appropriate.
• Oversee accounting, IT, and administration functions.
• Review and approve key customer-related and vendor agreements in a financially responsible and considerate manner.
• Maintain all Company financial records, be responsible for a timely closing, and be accountable for reporting.
• Ensure contractual obligations are met.
• Work with the leadership team to ensure facilities are sufficient to enable employee productivity and engagement, take care of all employees - from the shop floor to the founder and CEO.
• Support People functions, embracing purpose and creating an environment that is personally, professionally, and financially rewarding.
Key Selection Criteria:
• 15+ years of finance experience with a minimum of 2-3 years in a CFO or #2 role overseeing FP&A and / or other finance function.
• Solid FP&A, cost accounting, operational finance, risk management, budgeting and forecasting, systems and process experience, and people management skills.
• Background successfully working in a growth setting, ideally with private ownership or an aptitude to work in this environment and be financially attuned to the business and its purpose.
• Ability to work with and fully deploy systems, facilitating effective forward-looking management and monitoring of the business from a financial standpoint based on strategic growth objectives.
• Career in finance and accounting with experience in manufacturing and product, ideally B2B.
• Demonstrate an ability to work across an organization and be respectful of all levels, including the shop floor.
• History of building an effective, motivated team by assessing and optimizing the accounting team structure.
• Track record delivering measurable business and operational improvements resulting in better financial controls, processes, and performance.
