Summary/Objective
The Environmental Scientist II/Industrial Hygienists II/ Health Scientist II will assist senior project staff with deposition analysis, preparing overviews, and summarizing documents such as industrial hygiene reports and data. This individual may also assist with environmental and industrial hygiene investigations. Subject areas and investigations include a wide range of industrial, maritime, residential, and commercial projects. The work requires a professional knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of environmental science, health science, industrial hygiene, and occupational safety. An understanding and the ability to utilize pertinent aspects of chemistry, biological sciences and public health that pertain to projects involving lead, asbestos, mold, chemicals, and other environmental agents. Additionally, the Environmental Scientist II/Industrial Hygienists II/ Health Scientist II may evaluate health hazards associated with catastrophic events such as storms and flooding, forest fires, and the environmental, health and safety impacts related to chemical releases and oil spills.
Essential Functions
- Works as a team member under the direction of a Project Manager.
- Performs work on multiple projects at different stages of completion.
- Prepares studies and reports following standard format and procedures.
- Investigates and evaluates environmental, health and safety information and submit reports for review by senior staff.
- Willing and able to travel by air, sea, and land for periods up to 2 weeks on a regular rotation at short notice to reach project locations during catastrophic events.

Work Environment
- The majority of time will be spent doing desk work.
- Other assignments may include:
- Wet or humid conditions with high temperatures in deep south summers.
- Elevated areas with fall protection equipment.
- Noisy environments with the need for hearing protection.
- High levels of personal protective equipment. A full physical examination will be performed by an occupational physician to ensure that you can wear the following items: Negative pressure air purifying respirators and impermeable protective suits.
Physical Demands
The majority of work will require the use of a desk. Other assignments may include representative physical demands described below .
- Sitting limited to lunch, breaks and driving.
- Walking, may be back and forth all day long over terrains that range from flat to hilly, rough and slippery.
- Carrying equipment as much as 50lbs unassisted.
- Using hands and fingers to pick up objects, turn on regulators, insert earplugs, Operating hand tools.
- Pushing or pulling items.
- Reaching above head.
- Bending at the knee.
- Climbing ladders to reach high areas or down into tanks or excavations.
- Wearing a self- contained breathing apparatus.
- Squatting, kneeling or crouching in confined spaces.
- Hearing warning signals
- Vision must be correctable to at least 20:40 with ability to distinguish colors with good depth perception and peripheral vision.
This is a full-time position salaried position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The majority of work will require the use of a desk, but occasionally require rapid response out of normal business hours, travel out of town, and weekend work.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day. Rapid response to client emergencies and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's in Biology/Chemistry/Physics/Toxicology/Environmental Science/Industrial Hygiene/ Engineering
- Valid Driver's License
