Job description
We are looking for a multiple skilled and motivated Optical Engineer to join our Display and Optics team in Facebook Reality Labs. Based on your expertise and passion, you may work on one or more areas: imaging optics, viewing optics, optical systems, optical metrology, display optics, optical characterization, optical material and optical fabrication processes.
- Define and design optical components and/or systems for next generation AR and VR experience.
- Establish engineering specifications, including key performance metrics, test methods, and test requirements for optical components and subsystems.
- Collaborate with internal cross functional teams and external industry partners to develop and mature state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. material, process, metrology, and design) to extend the horizon of AR/VR experience.
- Lead the development during New Product Introduction (NPI) to scale up for high volume manufacturing.
- Define future optics technology roadmap and scope out New Technology Introduction (NTI).
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
- BS Degree is Optical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline or equivalent industry work experience.
- 5+ years of experience with optical design and instrumentation.
- Experience with imaging and viewing optics design and tolerancing.
- Experience with complex optical and opto-mechanical system design.
- Experience with optically graded plastic and glass material, optical and camera testing and metrology, optical fabrication processes (e.g. injection molding, glass molding, optical filming converting).
- Experience with display/backlight design and manufacturing or stray light modeling and analysis.
- Experience with optical system engineering and cross-functional large volume product development.
- Experience with rigorous computational methods in wave optics, including RCWA and FDTD.
- Experience in an optical software package (e.g. Zemax, Code V, LighTools, FRED, ASAP, Eikonal, TracePro, OSLO).
- Experience with communication skills.
- Experience with building collaborative relationships to work with internal and external cross-functional teams.
- MS or PhD degree in Optical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline or equivalent industry work experience.
- Experience in both sequential and non-sequential optics.
