Job description
You will be responsible for developing and implementing precise, robust, high?throughput, accurate metrology and test solutions for characterization, performance evaluations of materials, processes, and complex optical devices. You will be responsible for tool health, data quality, integrity of custom optical metrology systems and support design validation, cycle time of learning for development and fabrication of advanced display optics. You will also have cross-functional duties with systems engineering, integration, design, Opto-Mechanical teams for custom optical system tool development and facilitate the development of test plans for various leading-edge technology display products. You will join a highly cross-functional team tasked with design, development, prototyping and production of optical components to support AR optics productization. This role requires close collaboration with internal cross functional partners and external vendors to define and deliver complex solutions to support process development, quality control and to performance.
- Develop Metrology recipes, methods to collect a diverge range of optical parameters both for imaging and non-imaging systems (e.g. luminance, uniformity, color, MTF, stray light, haze, absorption).
- Responsible and own custom optical metrology systems, with focus towards tool health, data quality and integrity.
- Identify equipment issues and cross-functional work with internal and external partners, vendors to assure optimal tool-fleet performance.
- Coordinate with other teams to identify, procure and develop custom instrumentation, fixtures, optical elements to meet program needs.
- Manage external partnerships with MP vendors and instrument manufacturers to define test plans from development to production.
- Collaborate with the larger research team to support optical design and experimentation with analysis of developed technologies and components.
- Support test strategy to allow adequate coverage to support design verification cycles to support transfer to high volume manufacturing.
- Robust problem solving, Failure and Root cause analysis for process troubleshooting and reliability testing.
- Cross-functional collaboration with design, systems to analyze, design and evaluate custom instrumentation as needed to establish proof of concept or validate specified performance.
- Develop test plans based on component and level requirements to ensure process capability, product performance and instrument validations.
- Drive method transfers to internal and external partners to support integration.
- Set up, document, and sustain control systems to ensure metrology capability.
- Bachelors in Optical Sciences, Physics, Engineering with 5+ years of experience in optical engineering.
- Experience in optical components performance metrology, testing, optical characterization, spectroscopy and evaluation in a lab or Clean room environment.
- Familiarity with optical metrology tools such as interferometry or image quality testing (wavefront sensing, MTF and spectroscopy).
- MS or PhD in Optical Sciences or Physics or related field with at least 3+ years experience in applied research and/or product development of advanced optics or photonic systems.
- Knowledge of a broad range of optics including imaging, illumination, radiometry and photometry, geometric optics, statistics, and polarization.
- Hands on experience in laboratory work and in setting up of high quality and reliable optical measurement systems.
- Willing and Experienced working in a cleanroom environment.
- Well versed on standard tools and methods for measurement system automation at lab level including LabView, MATLAB and or Python.
- Knowledge in Design, Assembly and Automation, testing and deployment of test and metrology tools.
- Expertise in profilometry, interferometry, distortion measurements, MTF testing, spectrophotometry, wavefront sensing, laser-scanning.
- Experience developing hardware test solutions for automated data capture and data processing.
- Experience with in-line and off-line testing using automated systems for quality control in HVM for IQC, OQC, PQ and final inspection of optical components.
- Knowledge and experience with color science, colorimetry, and visual optics. Basic capabilities in optical design tools such as Zemax, FRED, or ASAP.
