Job description
Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. Through our family of apps and services, we're building a different kind of company that connects billions of people around the world, gives them ways to share what matters most to them, and helps bring people closer together. Whether we're creating new products or helping a small business expand its reach, people at Facebook are builders at heart. Our global teams are constantly iterating, solving problems, and working together to empower people around the world to build community and connect in meaningful ways. Together, we can help people build stronger communities - we're just getting started.
Summary
FRL (Facebook Reality Lab) has a mission to build the AR/VR ecosystem that helps people feel connected, anytime, anywhere. FRL builds, iterates and ships today's hardware and software on the road to the next computing platform. We're a diverse group of problem solvers driven by a culture of experimentation and innovation.
We are seeking a summer intern to bridge the gap between a MEMS device design and functional prototype. In this role, you will take concepts from design to tapeout to test and qualification. In this role, you will be a key member of a team of innovators, working on leading MEMS technologies and developing architecture to enable the future of AR/VR.
This is an internship position based in Redmond, WA. Our internships are twelve (12) to sixteen (16) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Required Skills
- Develop MEMS device designs for prototyping
- Translate MEMS device concepts into foundry-ready layout for tape-out
- Develop MEMS drive and sense instrumentation
- Build out testing pipeline for MEMS devices, including basic mechanical and electrical characterization, as well as building out front and back end instrumentation
Minimum Qualification
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD candidate in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics or related field
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
- Background in MEMS device design and layout
- Experience with multi-physics finite element simulations using tools such as COMSOL or ANSYS
- Experience with building out front and back end instrumentation for MEMS device testing
- Knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical MEMS characterization such as optical profilometry and electrical impedance measurements
- Proficiency in basic circuit layout tools such as Altium or Eagle
Preferred Qualification
- Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
- Hands-on MEMS device fabrication experience including photolithography, deposition, wet and dry etching
