The Chaplain leads by example, helps drive a positive culture, and is responsible for providing services of worship, counsel, Bible study, and offering spiritual support and advice to a diverse population of senior adults who may be living independently, in assisted living, or in a health care center
Principle Responsibilities:
* Encourage and empower residents to be as self-enabling as possible, and maintain a high level of self-worth.
* Respond to residents at their times of need. Respond to resident and family emergencies. Develop ways in which the spiritual life of the home may be enhanced.
* Provide services of worship to residents at all levels of independence. Provide direct pastoral care - function as a counselor, friend, and spiritual advisor.
* Develop an understanding of the resident populations of Transforming Age communities and its spiritual needs.
* Draft a plan for the year to include a calendar of all known events, meetings, and other activities. Draft a budget of potential expenses. Plan for needed supplies, and materials and orders in advance.
* Arrange for speakers, presenters and other resources.
* Implement a process to insure that resident and family input received is passed on to Transforming Age leadership.
* Attend committees and meetings as required.
* Provide services or worship as required; including regular provision for communion. Work continually to create a growing sense of Spiritual Community.
* Provide memorial services as necessary. Coordinate necessary funeral arrangements with resident's Pastor and church.
* Provide spiritual nurturing and encouragement. Offer a ministry to family members of residents.
* Make routine visits to the other Transforming Age communities. Coordinate with other departments to provide services. Encourage residents to participate in religious services.
* As an interdisciplinary management team member, participate in resident care plans.
* Develop and maintain resources of pastoral care, volunteers, and other support services.
* Perform department administrative duties as required.
* Implement ongoing community networking.
* Promote the Mission, Vision, and Values of Transforming Age in all areas of responsibility;
* Other duties as assigned or may be necessary in an organization having overlapping roles and responsibilities.
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with staff and external constituents.
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
* Equivalent to a Master's degree, with a degree in Divinity.
* Educated and trained ordained clergy of the Christian faith.
* Must continue education and vocational training in an ongoing manner.
* Must be willing and able to assist all residents, regardless of faith, in meeting their spiritual needs.
* Must have pastoral, counseling, and advising skills with training and experience in geriatrics.
* Must have experience in working with diverse populations and be able to apply total skills of profession.
* Must be able to drive own vehicle as required.
* Must be patient, tolerant, understanding, caring and interested in the residents.
