Summary
This contracted part-time Development Director position is responsible for implementing the development and communications functions of a small Seattle-based non-profit fundraising entity, the Friends of Women's Protection Center Nepal (FWPCN), with support from contractors, volunteers, and Board members. The Women's Protection Center Nepal works to end human trafficking and strengthen those vulnerable to trafficking in Nepal. This position includes the maintenance and cultivation of individual, church, corporate, and foundation donors, in addition to leading the organization's annual fundraising gala, other fundraising events, and campaigns, and supporting the Board. The ideal candidate for this position has 2-5 years of experience in development and/or sales and marketing and/or communications, is self-motivated, and able to forge and maintain strong working relationships with donors and Nepali staff. The position includes a 6-month trial period, after which the FWPCN Board will evaluate a longer-term arrangement.
Development and Marketing/Communications Responsibilities:
- Implements and updates the organization's development and communications plan with support from the Board.
- Maintains and grows existing donor support; cultivates funding relationships with new and diverse sources, including individuals, foundations, corporations, and churches.
- Writes and edits grant proposals under the supervision of the Development Committee Chair.
- Creates and leads fundraising campaigns (phone drives, social media appeals, direct mail, etc.), coordinating key volunteers in fundraising efforts to increase child sponsorship and general giving in order to achieve yearly financial goals.
- Completes website edits to facilitate donor giving, with contracted help as approved by the Board.
- Coordinates quarterly email newsletters and periodic fundraising appeals for FWPCN with Board-approved copywriter assistance.
- Works with contracted marketing help to create and distribute the FWPCN Annual Report.
- Liaises with Cedarstone, the FWPCN administrative service provider, as well as any other Board-approved contractors.
Events:
- Provides leadership for FWPCN's Hope for Freedom Gala committee (5-10 additional hours per week during July, August, and September).
- Coordinates appeals and social media campaigns to bring guests to the Gala.
- Responsible for gala operational plans to meet fundraising goals with Committee support.
- Implements smaller online and in-person fundraising events such as FWPCN's Day of the Girl Event.
Reporting Relationships and the Board:
- This position reports to the Friends of the Women's Protection Center Nepal Board and the Development Committee Chair.
- This position supports and resources the Board and the Development Committee with the necessary information for meetings and for Board Members to actively promote the organization to prospective stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree completed in good standing.
- Preferred 3-5 years experience in development and/or sales, communications and/or marketing.
- Demonstrated track record raising funds from individuals, corporate donors, foundations, and/or other sources, or maintaining and bringing on new sales accounts.
- Strong computer/technical skills with demonstrated proficiency in desktop publishing, database management, customer service, public relations, and donor stewardship.
- Organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, including cross-cultural sensitivity.
- The ability to develop and execute nonprofit development and communications/marketing strategies online and in-person.
- Self-motivated and propelled with limited oversight by the Development Committee Chair.
- Able to identify risks and/or issues and escalate to the Board as needed.
- Able to work with the FWPCN Board and Founder to raise the visibility of Women's Protection Center Nepal in the community.
- Preferably based in Seattle with remote work possible.
Compensation:
This position is compensated at $27.50/hour x 20 hours a week; half time to start with room for time to grow as income grows, with room for extra hours in the months around the Annual gala.
