The ideal Strategy Director leads the development of strategic projects across the Business Strategy team's key focus areas: functional support (e.g., merchandise, marketing, supply chain), business unit support (e.g., Nordstrom, Nordstrom.com, NordstromRack.com), and internal growth initiatives (e.g., acquisition, geographic expansion).

A day in the life...

* Work with senior leaders to deliver and create focus around key strategic priorities based on a keen understanding of industry trends, competitive dynamics and customer needs in an evolving marketplace
* Bring structure and thought leadership to highly ambiguous problems; manage team in synthesizing insights from analysis and ensure credible, actionable recommendations
* Develop rigorous, fact based, quantitative analysis to support recommendations. Ensure strategic and financial soundness and alignment of recommendations.
* Negotiate and mediate with senior leaders across multiple functions in the development and execution of strategy
* Write and communicate complex business issues in a simple, impactful way, generating compelling written documents for executive level audiences and working teams
* Manage the day-to-day work of your team and reinforce a performance-focused team environment that ensures everyone is contributing according to their strengths while also developing new skills and growing in their careers
* Continue to make an impact on the team or chart your path into the business-either in the merchandising function or beyond-and be part of the next generation of strategic and data-driven leaders at Nordstrom

You own this if you have...

* MBA or equivalent
* 7 - 10+ years of prior work experience
* Prior management consulting, investment banking and / or Retail experience preferred
* Ability to effectively build relationships with internal partners, peers and leadership
* Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
* Strong Collaborator who demonstrates the ability to influence beyond the scope of position
* Excellent verbal and precise written communication skills with attention to detail
