WHO is Sound Generations?

We are a comprehensive non-profit organization that serves older adults and people with disabilities in King County. Our mission is to support people on their aging journey through community connections and accessible services.

We are looking for a Part Time Food Service Worker to join our team at the Ballard NW Senior Center!!!! Our community dining program is a vital service for older adults and those with disabilities to stay engaged with the community. Guests can make friends, enjoy a hot meal, and learn about other fun events and activities. The Food Service Worker performs a variety of routine duties in the preparation and serving of food and beverages; performs routine clean-up duties such as dishwashing, trash removal, storage functions, and maintaining sanitary conditions.

  • Pay Rate: $17.21 Hourly
  • Work Schedule: 15 Hours/Week
  • This is a non-benefited position.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Site Coordinator-Chef in preparing and/or cooking vegetables, fruits, meats, soups, etc.
  • Operate cooking and kitchen equipment.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and equipment; check and store food and kitchen supplies; keep simple records; assist in preparing menus.
  • Transport food, supplies, and equipment to and from kitchens, dining areas, storerooms, and refrigerators.
  • May function as head chef or an assistant chef. Assist with daily paperwork collection.
  • Shop for weekly menu and pick-up food donations as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable health codes and proper food handling techniques.
  • Adjust recipes to volume of demand.
  • Inventory and maintain necessary supplies and goods for assigned meals.
  • Store leftover ingredients and products; assist in their utilization; rotate stock.
  • Provide program administrative support as needed.

Requirements:

  • Education: 10th Grade Education OR Equivalent.
  • Experience: Some institutional food prep and/or cooking experience preferred.
  • Valid Food Handler's permit or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • Demonstrate skills that promote diversity, equity and inclusion in a culturally diverse environment.
