True North Land Surveying, Inc, has an IMMEDIATE opening for a Survey Party Chief. Land surveying knowledge AND experience are a requirement for the position.
SURVEY CREW CHIEF
General Summary
Makes precise measurements to determine property boundaries. Provides data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth's surface for engineering and construction projects.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Performs field work related to all types of surveys; including boundary surveys, construction layout, topographic mapping, planimetric mapping, corridor surveys, and high accuracy control networks.
- Accurately runs and adjusts survey instruments including GPS, robotic total stations, level, and other electronic measuring devices with electronic data collecting capabilities.
- Performs mathematical calculations. Reads and understands survey map data and construction plans.
- Takes accurate and legible survey notes and performs simple note reduction and checking.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS | SKILLS
Education, Licenses and Certifications
- A high school education or equivalent is required, including a background in math, geometry and trigonometry.
Knowledge and Experience
- Five (5) years of experience operating survey instruments, collecting information in the field, and performing field computations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles of survey measurement, staking, and marking.
- Knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometry.
Competencies and Personal Attributes
- Must possess effective written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to identify sources of measurement errors.
- Must be able and willing to travel and work in other cities, including both urban and remote areas.
- Attendance, punctuality, and reliability are essential requirements.
- Must be able to work in inclement weather.
- Capable of operating as a one or two-man crew.
- Strong work ethic and team-player attitude.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Fieldwork involves working outdoors in all types of weather, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while measurements are taken. While performing these duties, an employee is frequently required to sit; talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
Availability
This is a full-time position. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:15a.m. to 3:45p.m.. Overtime and weekends as required.
Travel
Occasional travel is possible as projects require.
