Job Summary:
NanoString Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and technology-savvy Scientist I, New Technology Development , who will join R&D. This position will have a key role on the development of a novel new spatial profiling technology, an approach for measuring expression levels of proteins and nucleic acids in a highly multiplexed manner in specific areas of tissues. As technology is developed, you will have opportunities for close collaboration between biologists, engineers, chemists, and Software developers. Successful candidate must be passionate about wet-lab driven experimentations to find innovative solutions to development hurdles and analytical skills to make decision on next steps. Candidate must have strong analytical skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and strong track record of independent as well as collaborative research and development.
Essential Functions:
- Apply advanced and expert scientific knowledge to in-situ molecular detection assay development projects
- Conceive, design and carry-out proof-of-concept experiments for fast development of new molecular detection technologies
- Drive wet-bench experimentation, subsequent data analysis/interpretation activities, and generate summary reports
- Collaborate with software and hardware engineers to further improve instrumentation
Qualifications and Requirements (Education, Experience, Specific Skills):
- PhD. inbio-physics, bioengineering, molecular biology or related field
- Experience and demonstrated track record of developing new technologies in life sciences field.
- Knowledge and/or experience of in situ nucleic acid detection techniques
- Hands-on, state-of-the-art molecular biology experience in nucleic acid analysis and manipulation, including DNA and RNA purification, amplification, hybridization, etc.
- Working knowledge of DNA and RNA enzymology including polymerases, ligases, nucleases, modification enzymes, etc.
- Experience in NGS data processing preferred and proficiency in data analysis in R and/or python or similar required
- Experience working with tissue
- Ability to work both independently and as member of a project team
- Experience working with fluorescence microscope preferred
