Position Profile - Plant IT Manager

Expected Results:

  • Manage Appvion IT teams and ensure projects including upgrades, replacements and maintenance adhere to standards and meet delivery criteria
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all activities related to the design, development, implementation and maintenance/support of systems
  • Maintains a framework for the effective and efficient use of IT systems and works with functional leadership to implement and manage
  • Apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and best practices to guide their IT team


Supporting Activities:

  • Ensure that projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, or identify and resolve systems issues
  • Answer support calls from existing clients when they need urgent assistance (in a 24/7 operation)
  • Review and evaluate existing system effectiveness and efficiency and develop strategies for improving and leveraging these systems more efficiently
  • Collaborate with IT staff and end users to ensure proper testing of system changes takes place and systems meet organization needs
  • Develop plans to keep IT systems updated to meet current and planned organizational needs
  • Coordinate with DRP functions to insure recoverability of critical data
  • Prepare and manage capital and expense budgets for applicable systems/infrastructure within span of control
  • Identify and capture opportunities for improvement in processes
  • Utilize best practices to set standards for operational performance metrics
  • Demonstrate leadership and guidance to personnel serving as a mentor and role model
  • Recruit, interview and hire staff as required
  • Conducts development and performance reviews


Required Prior Accomplishments, Experience, Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, 6+ years management experience
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of computer systems Experience with industrial systems such as Rockwell FactoryTalk, GE Proficy Plant Applications/ OSI PI historian is considered a plus.
  • Experience with computer hardware (PCs, printers, scanners) is required.
  • Experience with networks, security and switches would be considered a plus
  • Experience with SQL syntax and programming
  • Experience with MS SQL Server SSRS programming
  • Exposure to MES technologies, including automated data collection, database applications, data archiving & historian applications, data visualization concepts, efficiency & QC/QA concepts for manufacturing, interfaces to ERP Systems, and manufacturing scheduling concepts.
  • Experience with programming technologies such as Microsoft C#, and VB.Net.
  • Excellent problem management skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, must be comfortable working with team members in person and remotely
  • Ability to lead and motivate others; flexible management style to supervise teams with diverse and varied backgrounds and knowledge
