Job description

Responsible for spare and wear part purchasing for selected suppliers. Places orders within guidelines and interacts with supplier to insure quality and performance measurements and goals are met. Audits suppliers for capabilities and compliance ability with Valmet requirements.

  • Supplier contact for requirements of paper machine parts;
  • Prepares, issues and follows up on inquiries and purchase orders within ERP system;
  • Monitor supplier performance on quality, costs, deliveries, and lead times;
  • Responsible for improving quality and reducing costs on products purchased;
  • Approve invoices for payment;
  • Negotiate orders;
  • Maintain necessary records;
  • Travel, as required, to suppliers.
  • Monitor process performance and competency to process requirements including those related to health and safety.

This job has significant aspects and OH&S responsibilities requiring special care to prevent pollution and minimize safety risks.
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to six years' experience in purchasing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in purchasing manufactured/engineered items.
  • Ability to read and interpret machining/fabrication/casting drawings.
  • Knowledge of heavy manufacturing operations a plus.
  • Purchasing experience within a distributor or industrial supplier environment a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated.
  • Take initiative to identify and anticipate customer needs and make recommendations for implementation.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance, including long periods of standing during recruitment/job fairs. Movement through shops and field environments.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Visual acuity is required to read and produce accurate materials.
Use of computers, keyboards, telephones, copiers, fax.
