This is a full time day shift position. Clinical Laboratory Science (degree) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (Certification MLS (ASCP)CM) strongly preferred.

Job Description:

The Laboratory Technologist assists with planning and performing research in the Microbiology Research Laboratory. In addition, the Technologist independently performs and reports the results from high complexity molecular tests performed in the Molecular Diagnostics Testing Laboratory.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Assist with research projects that utilize state-of-the-art laboratory procedures and techniques.

2. Independently perform and report the results from moderate and high complexity molecular (PCR-based) diagnostic tests for detection of bacterial/viral infections.

3. Recognize unexpected test results and take appropriate corrective action(s) to resolve technical/instrument problems.

4. Competently utilize laboratory data/information computer programming and electronic health records.

5. Assist with laboratory audit/budget requirements.

6. Plan and prioritize daily workload demands.

7. Monitor and adhere to state/federal quality control/assurance mandates (eg. CAP, CLIA).

8. Work with new employees to orient, train, and assess skills.

9. Participation in 10 hours of related Continuing Education seminars/experiences per annum (self-directed)

10. Perform other job-related responsibilities as requested/assigned

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a related field

Work Experience:

REQUIRED No experience required. (will train)

DESIRED No experience required. : Two years previous experience with clinical molecular diagnostic testing procedures (eg. PCR) and state/federal laboratory requirements (eg. CAP, CLIA).

License and Certifications:

DESIRED

American Society for Clinical Pathology Certified (ASCP) or equivalent laboratory certification

Category I - All Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.
