Job description

Summary of Major Responsibilities:
The Specimen Processing Workflow Coordinator follows laboratory policies and procedures and maintains accurate data reporting practices to ensure consistent and diligent execution of specimen processing. The Specimen Processing Workflow Coordinator ensures daily lab operations are effective and efficient by providing direction and guidance to employees during their assigned task.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure prompt, accurate, and timely processing and delivery of all patient specimens.

Handle and dispose of all specimen following universal precautions and applicable safety policies.

Maintain accurate records of problems and problem resolution related to specimen processing, inventory, and equipment.

Assign and organize work priorities within the department.

Assure the work quantity and quality of the specimen processing department by effectively directing workflow and managing available resources.

Act as a point of contact for new employees, to include being a part of the mentor program.

Assist coworkers by answering questions, following up on concerns, and providing guidance to coworkers, as needed.

Create daily and weekly team schedules including, but not limited to, break schedule, bench schedule, continuing education schedules, team meeting scheduling, and accession batch management.

Provide redirection conversations to guide the workflow of the lab.

Manage incoming sample volume including batch time and status of incoming kit walk in refrigerator.

Anticipate and alleviate bottlenecks in workflow.

Support department leadership with employee reviews and recognition.

Work with leadership in editing and reviewing and/or the implementation of new standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Conduct all assigned job duties in a timely and productive manner.

Perform all assigned job duties following laboratory policies and procedures.

Follow proper specimen identification procedures in the execution of all job duties.

Process laboratory specimens with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and compliance.

Meet standards for production and accuracy within 5 weeks of position start date.

Apply interpersonal skills; interact and build strong working relationships with peers at all levels of the organization.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 25% of a typical working day.

Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.

Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 75% of a typical working day.

Perform work duties on the bench for approximately 75% of a typical working day.

Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.

Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Must be 18 years of age or older.

1+ years of experience working in a laboratory or similar environment doing sample collection, to include working with samples from human, animal, nutritional supplements, food, or pharmaceutical, and collecting, accessioning, labeling, and testing samples, while maintaining sample integrity, following procedures and protocols, and sample collection/handling.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience directly or indirectly managing or organizing workflow or departmental scheduling.
