Responsibility of a Journeyman is to monitor the necessary equipment to maintain continuous operation. Monitor quality of on time finishes ensuring the integrity of the newsprint is maintained for distribution. Attend to Flexi-Roll, Bundle Distribution System, and inserting operation making the necessary adjustments in order to facilitate the movement of newsprint. Perform all necessary maintenance functions of the equipment to ensure the equipment operates efficiently. Maintains ISO check-off forms to ensure the control of quality system procedures are followed. Assist in maintaining the production floor for cleanliness, daily. Works as a team member to provide assistance to others and follow the work instructions, not provided in this description, by the supervisor. Adheres to the Company Code of Ethics to ensure policies and procedures are maintained which creates a positive work environment.

Responsibilities:

Monitor/programs flexi-rolls, stackers, and cart-loader to facilitate movement of newsprint to ensure product flow is continuous as directed by production operations.
Attends to counter/stacker and tying equipment as papers and material move from the press lines and inserting machines.
Sets inserting machines for production using all ISO checklists and materials provided to ensure customer requests are followed.
Operates SLS 1000 and 2000 inserting machines, which includes all adjustments necessary to ensure customer requests are met.
Transports stored bundles to inserting equipment when inserting is to be done, using electric mule of forklift.
Operates Kirk Rudy along with Scitex printers to delivered mailed product.
Completes and validates ISO check off forms to ensure production and service provisions are accurate as overseer, to substantiate quality system procedures are followed. Troubleshoots problems, in addition, performs light maintenance to include cleaning.

Knowledge:

Ability to use reasonable judgement in making decisions about operating power equipment and the ability to effectively trouble shoot potential problems with equipment. Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees using good communication skills. knowledge of standards, tools, methods, materials and practices of the packaging and distribution department.

Education:

Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience:

Familiar with operation of verifiable newsprint mailroom experience. Thorough knowledge of mailroom equipment, able to operate forklift and motorized hand trucks carrying pallets of inserts,maneuvering around equipment and employees. Experience on the job to perform satisfactorily and completion of full-time Mailer training program.

Physical requirements:

Ability to perform moderate physical labor. standing and /or walking during and entire shift. Ability to lift bundles of newspaper weighing 2-25 lbs regularly; push/pull four wheel carts weighing up to 1000 lbs occasionally, frequent bending, stooping, reaching and pushing of pulling. Ability to read and interpret instructions such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals. Ability to comprehend instructions and follow prescribed safety rules during machine operation.
