MORTGAGE CLERK

Position Summary

Answer member questions on real estate loans, interest rates and costs. Gather and analyze financial information on members for the purpose of determining qualifying status for mortgage loans. Assist members with applying for a mortgage, obtaining additional information and setting up appointments with mortgage loan officer. Collect, review and verify mortgage loan documents for accuracy for real estate transactions.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

  • Follow-up with members as needed to collect and organize all required documentation for the mortgage file
  • Provide all applicable disclosures for first mortgages
  • Process mortgage to include verification of employment, deposit accounts, and all liabilities in order to prepare mortgage application of verified information
  • Request and evaluate real estate appraisal to ensure proper guidelines are followed and final value is properly determined
  • Communicate and order title work from an attorney, title insurance company, or other professional including water/sewer, tax and assessment letters.
  • Create a mortgage submission package for the underwriter
  • Satisfy all conditions when received from the underwriter
  • Obtain copy of current homeowner's insurance and flood insurance (if applicable) and make sure mortgage clause is in favor of credit union
  • Review mortgage loan data for errors or omissions
  • Prepare closing package, researching and resolving all items in the closing package to ensure closing process is on-time and documentation is complete an accurate.
  • Execute mortgage related disbursements and expenses
  • Oversee regulatory tracking of homeowner's insurance and property taxes
  • Responsible for escrow account administration; annual escrow analysis, property tax disbursements and homeowner's insurance disbursements
  • Prepare, track and file mortgage satisfactions, modifications and closed mortgage files
  • Assist with audit of mortgage files

Qualification and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, notably Excel
  • Organization skills and attention to detail
  • Professional, well-developed communication skills are essential for projecting a positive image as a representative for the Credit Union.
