Job description

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, performs laboratory assays and complex experiments to elucidate novel research questions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with Principal Investigator to plan and structure research experiments to elucidate research aims.

• Executes laboratory experiments specific to aims of research.

• Troubleshoots assays and customizes experimental tools to elucidate research questions.

• Coordinates external and internal resources necessary for completion of research plan.

• Generates clear and complete records of experimental work.

• Communicates results of research at meetings.

• Participates in publication of research results.

GENERAL DUTIES

• Adheres to BCW, Bio-safety, NRC, and OSHA procedures and regulations.

• Attends required laboratory and research meetings.

• Maintains currency with information relative to the field of research.

• Operates, calibrates and performs routine maintenance on specialized research equipment

EDUCATION

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry, scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education and experiences.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of theoretical basis of work being performed.

• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

• Proficient in research laboratory techniques.

• Strong detail orientation and analytical ability.

• Ability to accurately carry out experiments and tasks by following established guidelines.

• Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks.

• Effective organizational and communication skills.

• Familiarity with computers and software applications desired.

EXPERIENCE

One to three years of relevant laboratory experience required beyond receipt of bachelor's degree.
