Job description

The Slitter Operator performs safe splicing of material where necessary with precision to meet customer's quality, our production and efficiencies with limited waste.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.
• Set up and operate slitting machine to customer's specification (traveler) on width and print register and produce smaller roll stock to be shipped to the customer and/or destination determined by customer for further processing
• Load material rolls on unwind using overhead hoist
• Web material through machine
• Set knives - CAUTION very sharp, to customer's specification
• Position edge guide to monitor print register
• Set up front of slitter with cores as needed
• Safely cut cores
• Weigh rolls to determine shipping costs for customer
• Follow AIB guidelines
• Cull defects and perform splicing when necessary
• Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor immediately
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety instructions
• Performs preventative maintenance on machines as required outside of Maintenance's responsibility
• Participate in ongoing CI and Focus improvement processes
EDUCATION:
• High School Diploma or equivalent

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum one year experience in a manufacturing environment
• Slitting machine operator experience preferred (minimum 1-year)

SPECIFIC SKILLS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• This position has operations that require muscular coordination, proper lifting techniques and required lifting up to 75 pounds time to time. Hoist is available for use.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, and bend
• Must be able to use measuring tape
• Must be able to use metric measurement tape

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• The noise level in the working environment is usually loud (80-90 decibels)
• The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes and or airborne particles
