Job description

This Senior Research Technologist will function as the administrative lab manager in the Deininger lab at the Versiti Blood Research Institute. The admin lab manager will report to the PI, and work with the lab's scientific director to support the operation of a multi-fleet research program. The admin lab manager is expected to proactively provide solutions for the lab's needs for compliance, purchasing and documentation, inventory management, and staff management.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with Principal Investigator to plan and structure research experiments to elucidate research aims.
  • Executes laboratory experiments specific to aims of research.
  • Troubleshoots assays and customizes experimental tools to answer research questions.
  • Coordinates external and internal resources necessary for completion of research plan.
  • Provides direction to Research Technologists and Trainees.
  • May have supervisory and/or administrative capacities within the laboratory group.
  • Generates clear and complete records of experimental work.
  • Communicates results of research at meetings
  • Participates in publication and presentation of research.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Adheres to BCW, Bio-safety, NRC and OSHA procedures and regulations.
  • Attends required laboratory and research meetings
  • Maintains currency with information relative to the field of research being performed.
  • May have laboratory budget responsibilities.
  • Maintains or supervises the maintenance of the inventory of research assay methods.
  • Operates, calibrates and performs routine maintenance on specialized research equipment.
  • Prepares solutions, reagents, media or stains necessary for experimental procedures.
  • May maintain or oversee maintenance of inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • May prepare and/or authorize requisitions
  • Performs other laboratory duties as assigned.


EDUCATION

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in biology, chemistry or equivalent scientific discipline required

Master's degree preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain the theoretical basis of the work performed.
  • Ability to perform research procedures independently.
  • Demonstrated ability in research laboratory techniques.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong detail orientation and analytical ability.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Computer literate with an emphasis on graphics, graphing, data management, and statistical applications
  • Previous supervisory experience, or a proven track record of progressively increasing levels of pertinent administrative experience in a laboratory setting.


EXPERIENCE

Five or more years relevant research laboratory experience required.
