QA Engineer

Job description

What you will be doing:
Assist in the design, creation and execution of test plans and test cases for user stories, using manual and automated testing techniques
Provide detailed defect reports when issues are found to enable the software development team to rectify as soon as possible
Evaluate software testing frameworks & technologies which could improve the efficiency of current QA processes

The successful candidate will primarily work within the 'Internet of Things' (IoT) team which focuses on delivering cutting edge cloud and mobile based connectivity solutions for a range of our products.

The candidate will report to the Senior QA Engineer and will assist in the design and execution of test plans and test cases for user stories, using manual and automated testing techniques. You will also be responsible for raising defects and will work closely with the IoT software development team.

What we are looking for:
ESSENTIAL

Functional and non-functional software test experience
Experience of writing manual test scripts
Experience with online issue management systems (e.g. Azure DevOps, JIRA)
Experience working in an agile development environment

DESIRABLE

Experience in writing\/executing tests with web automated test tools (e.g. Selenium, C#)
Experience in writing\/executing tests with mobile automation test tools (e.g. Xamarin, Appium)
Knowledge of MS SQL Server and database queries
Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platform
Experience with Load\/Performance Test tools
Experience in testing API's (e.g. Postman, SoapUI)
Software tester certification (e.g. ISTQB or equivalent)

Complexity and Creativity
Understanding how all the various services and applications that make up the IoT platform work
Creation of test plans covering complex user scenarios involving real world products

Judgement and Decisions
Deciding what constitutes a defect based on provided acceptance criteria
Putting forward suggestions for improvements to applications that are being tested and presenting those to senior members of the IoT team

Internal
IoT Project Stakeholders - depending on the specific IoT project, this could include R&D engineers, technical directors, business analysts, project managers and commercial managers
External
Outsourcing partners - there will be a requirement to engage with other software engineers and project managers who have been contracted to assist with the delivery of certain applications that need to interface with our IoT solution.

Travel
