Job description

A two-form entry primary school in Sutton is currently recruiting for a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant to support two hearing impaired children in Key Stage 2. This role is offered on either a full time or part time permanent basis, a term time only, to start as soon as possible.

The school has a dedicated Hearing-Impaired Resource Base, where children who have significant hearing loss are supported in mainstream education by special Teaching Assistants, Communication Support Workers and through Teacher of the Deaf support.

The successful applicant will be working under the professional guidance of the class teacher/Teacher of the Deaf within an agreed system of supervision, to support hearing impaired pupils in mainstream lessons using a Total Communication (TC) approach and to deliver specific interventions.

The successful applicant will need to be qualified at BSL Level 2 or above, and to be able to use a mixture of BSL, SSE and spoken language to communicate with and support the learning of identified pupils.

Working hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8:30 - 3:30pm. The part time position will be offered for Monday - Wednesday 8:30 - 3:30pm
