Job description
The Department for International Trade (DIT) and Inspire People are partnering together to bring you an amazing opportunity to join a team at the heart of the global economy and make a difference! The Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) team at DIT have a newly created opportunity for a Chief Technical Architect responsible for the Technical Architecture, Cyber Architecture and Site Reliability Engineering professions and communities. Basic of £82,800 to £90,000 including annual allowance depending on location and experience plus excellent benefits. Flexible, hybrid working from London or Cardiff.
As the Chief Technical Architect, you will report directly to the CTO and work very closely with the Head of Engineering, the Chief Data Architect and the Head of Cyber Security.
The Chief Technical Architect will have a background in software development, who can:
. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to Developers, Site Reliability Engineers and Technical Architects across DIT to both internal and external teams
. Design services or plan system integration, selecting necessary platforms and technologies to meet user needs, building and maintain technical roadmaps, rapidly building prototypes to demonstrate and test architectural patterns
. Be involved in the DIT technical community, identifying good practices, libraries, microservices to adopt widely, sharing your experiences, for example through blog posts and tech talks at conferences.
Essential Skills and Experience
What are we looking for from you? Well, you should have demonstratable skills and experience of:
. Hands on experience developing web services using Python, Django and/or NodeJS
. Practical knowledge at many levels of the web stack, from Front End code down to infrastructure and networking
. Experience being responsible for technical teams and delivering user-focused web services in multi-disciplinary agile teams
. Experience of introducing practices such as TDD, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps to teams, understanding of how to influence senior management and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
. Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure and services
