Job description
Role Purpose
The role of the Information Architect is to maximise the value of internal information assets across all business functions and information management systems as part of the wider Business Architecture team; to achieve this goal, information will need to be accessible, usable, and appropriately utilised.
The IA must therefore be able to develop and apply coherent, repeatable frameworks for the discovery and definition of information architectures, and have a good understanding of information taxonomies, accessibility principles, usability, content management strategies, and related tools and technologies.
You will need to work with your peers and the wider architecture team to translate business strategies into their information architecture equivalents and produce a roadmap that determines our investment priorities and portfolio of IA transformation programmes.
You will need to influence business and technology stakeholders to adopt the right solutions, and help to execute and govern the strategy, by helping solution architects and projects to design solutions that are fit for purpose and that conform to our standards and patterns.
You must therefore have a good understanding of project management and technology transformation programmes and must have good stakeholder management and workshop skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a high level of knowledge in core IA areas, incl. accessibility, labelling, navigation systems, metadata, search, and content management
- Maintain a good level of technical knowledge in relation to IA incl. current, emerging and future technology market trends and their impact on the business
- If required, provide advice to and/or seek to learn from other Member Firms, client teams &/or clients that are seeking to implement or improve their use of specific IA methods or frameworks
- Work closely with business functions and technology to understand and categorise information assets, and to provide direction on content location and treatment
- Work closely with technology SMEs to understand and develop content platforms
- Work closely with data architecture to develop the relationship between information and data, including how MI supports decision making
- Advise on options, risks, costs vs. benefits, and impact on other business functions and roadmap priorities
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential (Information Architecture)
- Proven track record and experience of Information Architecture, incl. accessibility, usability, labelling, navigation systems, metadata, search, and content management
- An understanding of Human-Centred Design principles and KPIs
- An understanding of technical debt, incl. its causes, how to measure it, and remedial actions incl. decommissioning
- Practical understanding of GDPR
- 5+ years of experience in Information Architecture or related roles
Essential (Other)
- Experience of working with Agile and traditional Software Development Lifecycle methods
- Good understanding of project management concepts, incl. Gantt charts/plans, risks, assumptions and dependencies, etc.
- Able to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience in a way that is relevant, easy to consume and compelling
- Comfortable working with ambiguity at the beginning of projects, with ability to provide clarity of direction despite this
