Job description

One of the UK's most inspiring and best-known faith-based organisations is looking for an influential and highly motivated Payroll Manager.

The Payroll function is part of the Processing Team, who collectively supports and delivers 8 monthly payrolls across the UK encompassing over 8,000 employees, pensioners and lay staff.
The Payroll activities within the organisation are complex across various jurisdictions including UK & Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man and those posted overseas. There are differing statutory regulations to work within and unusual processing situations such as providing payroll pension provisions for retired staff.
As the Payroll Manager, you will lead the team and ensure the provision of payroll services across all legal entities. These services include completing HMRC or other tax authorities' returns, undertaking deductions & payments to all appropriate stakeholders, providing payroll reporting and liaison with the financial accounts team to ensure correct accounting in each entity as appropriate. You will;

  • Manage a proficient team who provide payroll services & support to all stakeholders within the legal entities of the organisation to ensure capability and effective and efficient delivery of services
  • Develop and implement timetables & processes that deliver effective payroll services in line with all compliance and regulatory requirements, across all 8 payrolls to all employees, volunteers, pensioners & other clients of the payroll department
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery across all 8 payrolls with suitable and robust controls providing confidence in the integrity of data
  • Develop trusted relationships with relevant key stakeholders e.g. HR, Financial Accounting and other stakeholders of the payroll department ensuring that they are in receipt of what is needed and that they are providing the required support or services
  • Produce a breadth of reporting and KPIs for payroll services for the Senior Management Team

The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

  • Being educated to 'A' Level standard and have a Mathematics GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Intermediate or advanced capabilities with Excel
  • Substantial experience of working within payroll including having previously worked with larger and more complex payrolls
  • Excellent people management skills, having previously led a payroll team
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation ability
  • A customer service and solutions focused approach
