The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is an international organisation dedicated to building a better world through higher education.

We believe that international collaboration is central to this ambition. By bringing universities together from around the world - and crucially the people who study and work within them - we help to advance knowledge, promote understanding, broaden minds, and improve lives.

We champion higher education as a cornerstone of stronger societies, supporting our members, partners, and stakeholders as they adapt to a changing world.

We are looking for a creative and experienced Senior Events Officer to join our high-performing Marketing, Communications and Events team. The successful candidate will develop the current events programme to help strategically communicate the organisation's priorities and support a new vision and roadmap for ambitious growth across membership, programmes, and business development.

The postholder will act as a business partner for other departments, ensuring that all events are delivered to a high standard and are aligned to the key strategic objectives of the ACU. They will be responsible for virtual and in-person event operations, providing and supporting best practice event delivery, including the use of the latest tools and platforms to enhance participant experience.

As Senior Events Officer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and leading an ACU-wide virtual and in-person events programme that supports the organisation's strategic priorities
  • Planning and delivering events, with oversight of the entire lifecycle of an event, including invitations, registrations, and payments
  • Working with the Membership team to develop strategic events to drive member engagement, recruitment, and retention
  • Working with the Membership, Programmes, Business Development and Strategic Communications teams to identify strategic collaboration opportunities with key audiences through events
  • Supporting and implementing communications and engagement plans, using events as a strategic communications channel

Some of the skills you need to be able to demonstrate include:

  • Extensive experience of devising and delivering creative and effective virtual and in-person events at pace
  • Experience of using online event platforms, with a view to continuously improving processes and seeking learnings from the latest developments
  • Experience of planning and delivering events as a proactive strategic communications channel, with an understanding of using different approaches to reach target audiences with key messages
  • Sound knowledge of event procedures and industry practice, including health and safety, GDPR, insurance, VIP protocols, and contracts
  • Experience of using CRM systems and knowledge of the technologies available to support event management

Our benefits include 31 days holiday per year (including 4 Christmas closure days) plus bank holidays, competitive pension scheme (10% employer contribution plus 5% employee contribution), season ticket loan and excellent support for learning and development through a range of educational and networking activities.

At the ACU, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of gender, race, religion, marital status, disability, age, and sexual orientation.

As Senior Events Officer, you will be employed by ACU Trading Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary.
