*Create policies to cut crime and protect the public.*

*The challenge*

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. As well as tackling crime and enforcing the law, we also protect the most vulnerable and have a proud history of providing refuge to those who have been displaced or are seeking asylum. Whether it's fighting crime, protecting our borders or combating slavery, the Home Office is at the cutting edge of public policy in this country and our work is some of the most challenging and rewarding in government.

The Public Safety Group is a large and diverse team, focused on protecting the vulnerable, cutting crime, disrupting the highest harm criminals, and ensuring that our police, fire and rescue services are trusted, efficient and effective in delivering frontline public services. We work with a range of partners including other Government departments, local government and the voluntary sector as well as Police and Crime Commissioners, the National Crime Agency and other colleagues across the Home Office.

*The role*

Working as a Senior Policy Advisor in this rapidly changing environment, you will be integral to developing policy in pressing and often politically contentious areas, including many that are Ministerial priorities. You will deliver high-quality advice and input to senior colleagues and Ministers on areas as diverse as tackling exploitation and abuse, reducing crime and improving policing and fire and rescue services. This is demanding yet rewarding work that makes a real difference to everyday life for communities across the UK.

*About you*

A track-record of developing or implementing evidence-based strategies, policies or legislation is essential. You're a strategic thinker who's comfortable collaborating with people at all levels. You are able to learn quickly, evaluate complex information, including legislation, and understand the emotional impact of your decisions. The ability to write and present clearly to convey your understanding and ideas to others is key. Skills in leading and managing stakeholders, partners and a dedicated team are essential. A flexible approach will be important to meet rapidly changing priorities, and you must be ready to make effective decisions and work at pace.

*Benefits*

In return for your expertise, we offer outstanding benefits including a Civil Service pension, an environment with flexible working options, and continuing learning and development tailored to your role - all within a culture encouraging inclusion and diversity.
