About Us:

Ensuring every child or young person receives the best possible care and support to achieve their potential and have the skills to live a fulfilling life.

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. We have high aspirations for all our children and young people, including those who arrive as unaccompanied asylum seekers and those who are leaving care without family support. Our specialist team of social workers provides tailored care to overcome day-to-day problems and supports young people as they transition into adulthood. We have recently put extra resources into this area to meet a growing need.

The Role:

You will provide a full social work service to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children who are 'looked after' by the local authority as well as care leavers. This will be mostly former asylum-seeking children. This includes working with legal representation and other organisations on the formal immigration processes for those seeking asylum. You will also ensure an effective transition for service users into leaving care services or making a return to their country of origin. Occasionally you will need to undertake age assessments.

You'll be joining a highly experienced, committed, stable and supportive team with relatively low caseloads, who are able to dedicate time and resources to this important work. The service offers staff the flexibility of hybrid working with up to two days a week at home and other days at the office or in the community.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information

About You:

A qualified and registered social worker, you'll have experience of working with children and young people, including those in need of protection and statutory childcare work. An understanding of the needs of those 'In Care' or 'Care Experienced' will be helpful. Enthusiastic, analytical and creative, you'll have the drive and initiative to address a wide range of complex problems. Experience of working with refugees or asylum seekers is not essential, but you must be ready to offer a service that is culturally sensitive and empowering.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.

Please apply online specifying in your personal statement how you meet the requirements for the role, as set out in the person specification and job description. CVs will not be considered for this application.
