Job description
The principal function of the Trade Processing and Settlements Team is to support LGIM's global trading activity covering the confirmation matching and settlement of all Repos, Foreign Exchange and Money Market Deposits as well as any new or additional instruments that LGIM look to support.
Trading must be processed effectively within principal systems throughout the trade life cycle, in line with market and regulatory standards, providing robust support to the business areas based on service level agreements.
As the diversity and base of the business rapidly change in support of the international expansion, the focus of the function is on achieving results coupled with need to stay focused whilst continually recognising and adapting to changing conditions.
Principal Responsibilities
- To proactively process and support the trade capture, confirmation and settlement of all Repos, Foreign Exchange, Money Market Deposits as well as a range of other instruments within a high-volume environment.
- Following up of queries with Global Trading Team, Fund managers, Custodians and Brokers, and daily checking of failed trade information from custodians as well as aid with the investigation of interest claims where applicable.
- Issuing settlement instructions for trades to custodians within agreed timescales/market deadlines.
- To be analytical and pro-active towards improving procedures/processes within the Trade Processing and Settlements environment, recommending and implementing, any required changes to either processes or system capability.
- Managing multiple inboxes to ensure timely resolution of queries.
- Contribute to the promotion of effective Trade Processing and Settlement function to support all LGIM market traded instruments/products.
- To be flexible in attitude towards day to day processes and issues. Additionally, proactive attitude towards market practices and the ever-changing requirements of the business.
- Ensure all external market deadlines are met by pro-actively monitoring all queues and ensuring that all confirmations and settlements have been processed accurately and timely, ensuring minimal risk to LGIM.
- Effective escalation of all trade processing and settlement issues. Ensuring administrators comply with all procedures and processes.
- Identify processes which could be automated via robotics and raise automation requests.
- Be flexible in approach to working patterns where LGIM and/or market events result in extraordinary trading volumes.
- Releasing authenticated instructions to the external parties to ensure all transactions automated or manual settle on time, acting as an authorised representative of the company within prescribed limits.
- Ensure that all internal deadlines are met and liaise effectively with other Operational teams, IT teams, the Global Trading Team, Custodians and Brokers on any trade processing or settlement issues.
- Provide support to the team supervisor and more junior members on the team.
- Work collaboratively with peers in Chicago and Hong Kong Operations teams.
- Undertake special project work including support and implementation of future systems developments as directed.
- Be flexible in learning other aspects of work within the Trade Processing team, to assist and cover if necessary.
- Prompt investigation and resolution of Queries, Interest claims and overdraft costs directly relating to Trade Processing and Settlement activity.
Requirements
- Good knowledge of Investment Management.
- Good working experience of the Trade Processing or Settlements process, with regards to Repos, Foreign Exchange, Money Market Deposits.
- Good knowledge of systems associated with the confirmation life cycle (Trade Processing) where trades are being confirmed via SWIFT, TRAX or vi manual confirmation with brokers.
- Good knowledge of world markets (Settlements).
- Demonstrate working knowledge of SWIFT, with knowledge of Quasar a distinct advantage.
- Computer literate with good PC skills, particularly Word and Excel.
- Numerate, flexible, adaptable and able to multi-task in a fast paced and changeable environment.
- Track record of identifying and implementing change to reduce risk in processes or increase STP.
- Customer focused.
- Able to work to strict deadlines.
- Ability to grasp issues, find creative and innovative solutions to problems.
- Confident liaising across, Front Office, Investment Operations environments.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.

- 'Can do' attitude and approach to challenges within the Settlements team.
- Ability to manage BAU with additional workload such as testing and process improvements.
Additional Information
- Initially a temporary contract for 52 weeks, with a view to extend.
- Day rate of up to £250 (dependent on experience and inside of IR35).
- This is a hybrid position; therefore we are looking for someone who would be happy to split their time between working from home and the L&G office in London.
