Position: Specialist Cyber Underwriter
Location: United Kingdom
The role
Hiscox has been writing cyber insurance since 1999 and over that time we have grown a substantial book of business to date - at a rate of 70% a year - and become recognised as market leaders in this space. The cyber market is predicted to continue to grow exponentially over the coming years, as is the threat posed to businesses, and we want to ensure that we continue outperform the competition and grow profitably.
Working within our specialist cyber team, you will responsible for executing our cyber strategy; robustly underwriting our larger and more complex cases, and ensuring the long term sustainability of the portfolio. You will join an established and high performing team who operate within a fast paced environment. You will need lots of energy to contribute to our winning team whilst driving your own relationships (internal & external) and pipeline. You will be tasked with case and portfolio underwriting, educating and assisting our regional teams, and dealing with some of our largest, most complex, cyber clients and their brokers. It is therefore essential that you are technically astute, have strong relationship management skills and are driven by an exceptional service ethic.
What you'll be doing:
For this role we are looking for someone who has their finger on the pulse of the cyber market. We want to work with an energetic and driven person with a genuine interest in cyber risks.
Key responsibilities:
Portfolio management:
- Assist the Cyber Underwriting Manager in developing underwriting strategy through monitoring the cyber risk environment and our claims experience
- Product & wording development, keeping abreast of new risks and exposures within the sector to ensure Hiscox's market leading position is maintained
Underwriting:
- Profitable case underwriting of new, mid-term and existing business
- Effectively negotiate with both internal and external parties
- Broker and client visits as required on new and existing cases
- Handle cyber referrals from UK regional offices & portfolio underwriters and assist in writing cyber business regionally
Pro-active internal & external development:
- Increase Hiscox's profile on cyber both internally and externally
- Forge strong professional relationships with our key brokers
- Keep abreast of the competitive landscape from market moves to new product launches
- Promote and develop cyber products in the regional offices, including training of local underwriters and brokers as required
- A deep understanding of brokers and the development opportunities on cyber
- Continually improve your broker and customer interactions using the Hiscox coaching framework

Requirements:
- A keen interest in cyber and technological developments
- Strong analytical skills, with an ability to spot patterns and trends in data.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Enjoy building strong relationships, seeking out new opportunities and being a trusted advisor for your brokers and clients
- Experience in providing superb service whilst managing lots of work and changing priorities at once
- The energy to play the long game (persistence/tenacity) and demonstrable drive, self-motivation and determination to achieve results
- Consistently demonstrates behaviours conducive to achieving both personal and team objectives, in line with the core values of Hiscox
- ACII qualification or willingness to progress toward this
Our nice to haves:
- A background of writing cyber insurance business, though this is not essential for the right candidate.
- Cyber-related qualifications, e.g. CISMP, CPIA, CRIA, CPSA
- Experience of working outside of the insurance industry in a cyber role, e.g. in a SOC, or threat intelligence
- Knowledge of cyber risk management frameworks (e.g. NIST, ISO27000) and GDPR
