Overview / Responsibilities

If so, we are recruiting for a high-calibre Assistant Consultant to work on a breadth of water resources projects to join our Water Management team.

We support clients to understand the resilience of their existing water resource systems and how this may change due to population growth, environmental pressures, under extreme droughts and through climate change impacts. We then support the development of best value plans through options identification, appraisal and prioritisation.

Wood's Water Management team works across a wide spectrum of services covering water resources and security, hydrology and hydraulics, water quality, hydroecology. geomorphology and hydrogeology. Through our projects we provide high quality technical services and advice to a wide range of high-profile customers in the UK and overseas, including government departments and agencies, the water industry, and a wide range of other industrial sectors, including power, transport, nuclear, mining, commercial and oil and gas.

Key Responsibilities

You will contribute to a diverse range of water-related projects, covering water resources assessment, planning and policy, numerical modelling, hydrology, hydrogeology and environmental impact assessment (EIA). You will work for clients across a range of sectors, including water, government, power utilities, property, transport, and government, both in the UK and overseas.

You will provide technical input to a variety of office and field-based projects. You are also likely to be involved in supporting the development of proposals for new projects. You will often work in multi-disciplinary teams providing technical contributions to projects, data and information collection, analysis and reporting.

You will be a highly motivated, numerate candidate with excellent communication skills. You will have the ability to apply technical knowledge in analysing problems and finding solutions to new challenges. The ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as individually for discrete tasks, is essential.

Skills / Qualifications

You will have technical knowledge and a strong interest in some or all of the following:

• A good degree-level qualification in a relevant subject, such as geography, geology, earth/environmental science, civil engineering or maths
• Post graduate experience is not essential, although a Masters degree in water resources management, hydrology or a related discipline would be advantageous
• Technical knowledge and a strong interest in water resources, hydrology, hydrogeology, water quality
• You should have strong numerate and analytical skills, and be able to apply them to analysing problems and finding solutions to novel challenges
• Some programming experience (skills in Python and/or the R statistical package) would be advantageous
• You will collaborate effectively as part of a team, but also exhibit initiative in working individually on discrete tasks
• You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, including being able to write high quality, concise reports
• You should have practical experience in at least some of the following: use of MS Office tools (Excel, Access) in hydrological assessment; use of GIS packages such as ArcGIS; use of water resources software specialist hydrological, water quality or hydraulic modelling software
• A full UK driving licence would be advantageous
