Working as a planning enforcement officer in a high motivated local authority, you will get to hit the ground running, operating with a variety of cases from both residential and commercial backgrounds.

Your new role

Your role would require you to take on a variety of day-to-day jobs by investigating a wide range of alleged unauthorised development, as allocated by the planning enforcement manager. You would also manage your own caseload of between 40-60 cases depending on the complexity of the enforcement issues within the team. As well as this, you would carry out site inspections to investigate and establish breaches of planning control as required, and efficiently monitor the progress of these cases until completion. Finally, you will draft planning enforcement reports and planning enforcement notices, breach of condition notices, planning contravention notices, etc. as necessary and be able to defend these planning Enforcement decisions, including notices, at appeal and prosecution if necessary, with the support from the planning enforcement manager.

What you'll need to succeed

You will ideally be degree qualified in town planning or a RTPI equivalent subject and with a proven track record of dealing with a range of different enforcement issues and unauthorised developments. A Knowledge of Town and Country planning and associated legislation, and national, regional, and local policy including requirements for public consultation. You will have excellent knowledge and understanding of planning policy and practice and good IT skills with excellent verbal and written communication. Candidates are also required to have a full driving license, with access to a car.
