As a Manager at PwC, you will solve important problems, intelligently applying advanced analytics solutions to reshape our client's businesses. You'll help embed data and analytics in our Consulting approach and drive change through digital transformation.

Through being innovative with data, you'll have a real impact on business decision making, often directly advising senior members of leading organisations in some of the largest organisations in the UK and worldwide. You'll add value to our clients through identifying and delivering benefits which are sustainable. You will be part of small teams or large transformational programmes, working closely with some of the top minds in their field and supporting the development of other analytics specialists learning their craft.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the senior leadership team in managing client engagements from strategy development to end-to-end deliverable creation. Managers will run a project or workstream, creating novel data solutions to address complex client problems.
  • Acting as the main day-to-day contact for clients, building strong relationships with senior stakeholders;
  • Managing small project teams and inspiring others to solve problems, under pressure, end-to-end with data
  • Working with stakeholders and wider data teams, managers contribute to internal innovation through designing and building analytics and digital assets for PwC to reuse and commercialise in the market;
  • Supporting senior management to identify opportunities to embed advanced data and analytics use cases in wider business transformation propositions;
  • Acting as a "data translator": communicating compelling business stories to non-technical stakeholders based on deep analytical insight;
  • Being a "data influencer" - proposing and recommending ways in which PwC can continuously improve with awareness of the latest techniques and technologies; and
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team of data specialists, strategists, experience consultants and technology gurus to deliver great client outcomes through complex strategy-led and technology-led transformation programmes.
Typical daily activities for an advanced analytics Manager in PwC range from investigating and understanding client issues to delivering analytical solutions, interpreting insights and crafting recommended next steps for our clients. Example projects include developing end to end machine learning models to address strategic and operational business questions or defining an analytics strategy with some of the largest organisations in the UK and worldwide.

Requirements

As a data scientist you will have a proven track record of developing advanced analytics use cases, data monetisation models, or data products used to serve internal process improvement, customer experience improvements or new value creation.

Essential requirements for this role:
  • Educated to degree level BSc/MSc/PHD in - for example - Mathematics, Statistics, Operational research, Engineering or other STEM;
  • A strong team player with empathy, humility and dedication to joint success and shared development;
  • Candidates must have demonstrable practical project experience (professional, academic or personal) in using computational statistics (probability distributions, dimensionality reduction, hypothesis testing, regression etc) to solve business problems, able to demonstrate the following skills:
    • Able to articulate complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences including "storytelling" through data visualisation;
    • Delivery of proof of concept or operational solutions through the entire lifecycle from data sourcing to results. This includes assessing modelling needs based on client's situation and recommend the best advanced analytics tools and methods to support them;
    • The intellectual curiosity and drive to seek out, learn, and then apply new data science techniques in a fast paced environment with scepticism and attention to detail regarding data quality and analytical outputs;
    • You have exceptional analytical ability and are able to solve unstructured problems involving large amounts of quantitative data with a structured and hypothesis driven approach;
    • Show experience in owning client relationships and managing them throughout the engagement lifecycle; and
    • Commercially curious: we want you to be able to understand a business area and its strategic outcomes, the business processes and metrics that drive performance.
Technical skills required:
  • Foundational understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms or decision science domains (eg. clustering, decision trees, logistic regression, basket analysis, optimisation, simulation) to deliver rapid business insight;
  • Practical knowledge of core data modelling, manipulation and visualisation skills- for example using tools such as Excel, Alteryx or SQL, PowerBI/Tableau/Qlik or Python;
  • Proven programming experience in one of Python, R, Go, SQL or similar; and
  • Advanced technical skills, in one or more of the following areas: advanced Excel modelling (including VBA), SQL, Java, Simulation (e.g. Anylogic, Simul8), R, Go and/or Python.
Subject matter expertise:

Proven experience in applying data science tools and techniques in at least two of the following areas:
  • Operational performance management;
  • Demand and capacity planning;
  • Pricing strategies;
  • Financial risk analysis;
  • Supply chain;
  • Business case modelling/strategic planning;
  • Process simulation and optimisation; and/or
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI).
"Nice to have" skills for this role:
  • DevOps experience in areas such as Git and Agile development methods;
  • Experience working with cloud platforms or accreditation (Azure, AWS, GCP) ;
  • Experience of working with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Presto, Redshift, Spark or similar;
  • Experience with AI techniques such as NLP or Neural Networks;
  • Experience with deep learning tools such as Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch, MXNet is a plus
