Main Purpose
Bill Kenwright Ltd is looking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic marketing manager to lead on the co-ordination and delivery of all production marketing campaigns across the UK, West End and abroad. The key elements of the role are:
- To lead on the planning and execution of marketing campaigns for musicals and plays across the UK and worldwide, delivering considered and tailored campaigns that are built on a solid analysis of key audience demographics, to deliver strong box office results and demonstrable return on investment, ensuring at all times each production works within the budget set.
- To lead on and deliver audience development strategies across all existing and new productions.
- To function as the key point of contact for venue marketing and communications departments, working with external marketing agencies, external ticketing partners and press representatives on each production, delivering smooth and effective coordinated campaigns across all productions.
- Collaborate with the producers and the managing director, alongside external graphic designers, content creators, production photographers and videographers, to develop and refine artwork concepts, brand styling and campaign assets for each production that work across all marketing channels.

Bill Kenwright ltd is one of the UK's largest commercial theatre producers, the company produces a range of touring, West End, and international productions in addition to running both Theatre Royal Windsor, The Other Palace London and its film and TV department BK Studios. Head office is based in Little Venice a 5-min walk from London Paddington station.
With over 5 decades of producing and more than 500-productions to date, the company is one of the most established theatre producers in the UK. With a key focus on touring productions of plays and musicals that range from playing smaller regional playhouses to large 'No.1' venues in the UK as well as international tours, West End transfers and Broadway productions. Recent productions include Heathers (West End and UK Tour), Blood Brothers (West End and UK Tour), Be More Chill (West End), Hamlet & The Cherry Orchard (Windsor season with Ian McKellen), Cat & The Canary (UK Tour), Evita (West End and UK Tour), The Best Man (West End), Foxfinder (West End), Cabaret (West end and international tour), Dreamboats and Petticoats (West End and UK Tour) amongst others.
Working closely with both the managing director, the producers, external marketing agencies, our PR representatives and venues, the role will lead the marketing team on the delivery of marketing campaigns across all our productions, including West End, touring and international shows. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in theatre marketing, with a strong understanding of box office and driving sales results, digital and print campaigns. With a proven record of delivering coordinated and effective campaigns across multiple venues and platforms, backed by a strong understanding of audience development, and targeting techniques. Usual officer hours are 10am-7pm Mon-Fri, with some evening and weekend work as required, particularly with attending first night and press night performances of BKL productions.
Responsibilities include:
- To plan, develop, budget, and deliver excellent marketing campaigns and wider marketing and communications strategies with a core focus on driving sales and building audiences for each production, with demonstrable return on investment, working within the budgets set.
- To plan, budget and deliver audience development campaigns across both the company brand and each production, utilising audience, and box office data to inform approach, channels, and target audience.
- Be the key point of communication for venues marketing and communications departments, external marketing agencies, ticketing partners and press representatives to ensure the timely and efficient administration and delivery of all marketing and campaign activity for all productions, across all channels.
- Collaborating with the producers and the managing director, to lead on the creation of all artwork, marketing materials, content, and video assets for each production, ensuring the smooth and timely coordination, administration and distribution of marketing assets, campaign information and sales information with all venues and external partners as required, working within set budgets at all times.
- Undertake analysis on marketing campaign and strategy activity to assess and report on campaign effectiveness, sales patterns, and audience development to inform future approach.
- Work with the producers and programmers' offices to develop budgets and forecasts on all productions, based on both historical data and benchmarked productions, working with the producers to forecast the commercial outcome.
- Support producers delivering feasibility studies, collaborating with the producers, production, and programming departments, to assess the viability of new projects. Identifying target audience sectors, key strategies, and budget approach.
- Work across all BKL activity to support marketing activity and brand awareness, including maintaining company platforms including the company and production websites, social media channels and all public facing communications.
- Working with the finance director and Managing Director to establish and report on Key Performance Indicators on campaign results, sales patterns, and performance to proactively monitor and preemptively respond to changes in sales patterns.
- To ensure all marketing material, campaign information, data and artwork is stored in an organised and efficient system allowing for easy reference and in line with our data protection policy.
- To line manage and motivate both the BKL marketing team and external venues and partners to fulfil sales objectives.
- To keep abreast of the theatre industry, including new and upcoming touring productions or productions in early-stage development, industry people movement, and productions playing in London as well as industry-wide movement and national trends for audience behaviour etc.
- To work alongside the Theatre Directors and Marketing department at Theatre Royal Windsor and The Other Palace on co-productions, tours, and transfers as required.
- Attending first nights and press nights for BKL Productions as required, in addition to visiting other productions and venues as directed.
- To maintain effective internal working relationships with other BKL departments, in addition to always acting as an ambassador for the company.
- Preparation of information for management meetings as needed in addition to reporting daily and weekly performance figures against KPI's set.
