What you will be doing:
As the Tunnel and Shaft Engineer, you will lead in the condition assessment of tunnel and shafts within Thames Water.
You will define, manage, and support in the undertaking and reporting of condition assessment of all tunnel and associated shaft assets and support in the definition of remedial works and investment requirements.
You will monitor and report on the performance of the assessment condition programme against key performance indicators and other relevant measures, taking corrective action as necessary. In this role, you will act as a technical lead for tunnels and provide an overview of corporate governance in this area.
Some of the key accountabilities for the role include:
Thames Water has a unique set of tunnels requiring inspection and investment. This is a unique opportunity for someone with an interest in all types of tunnelling to take ownership of inspections of these assets and have the overall responsibility for governance and investment to ensure the tunnels are appropriately maintained.

Some of the key accountabilities for the role include:
- Providing an overview of tunnel condition and risk to the business to inform the corporate governance processes
- Work within a team to achieve agreed objectives, providing leadership, development and support to the Reservoir Safety Team. Ensuring there is a strong focus within the team on health and safety
- Developing policies, standards, systems, and processes in the asset condition assessment of tunnels and provide the business with guidance relating to asset assessment
- Researching area of expertise including legislation and guidance, examining reports and correspondence and carry out analysis and preparing briefing papers as needed
- Have a degree in Civil Engineering with relevant working knowledge and either chartered or working towards chartered status
- Have proven knowledge of tunnelling inspections and knowledge of asset risk management to define and implement an appropriate condition assessment and inspection programme
- Be competent with the use of complex IT systems and standard office software
- Be a credible leader with the drive and energy to deliver, leading and supporting the team, and driving a culture of health and safety across all teams
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to manage and develop key stakeholder relationships to improve business performance
- Travel within Thames Water's region to undertake condition assessment will be required so a full driving licence is needed
