System Design AuthoritySystem Design AuthorityWould you like to work for an organisation who designs and manufactures a range of Naval Ships and state of the art Combat Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a System Design Authority at our site in Portsmouth.As a System Design Authority, you will be providing Design Authority expertise to cutting edge projects within the military domain. Your role could see you involved with equipment and systems destined for various Royal Navy platforms including, but not limited to: Type 23, Type 45, QEC (Aircraft Carriers) & Type 26.This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills on our products and to become the Design Authority for a range of subjects. You will have the opportunity to work within the defence industry and this role will allow you to influence the technology roadmap across a number of varied and interesting projects and programmes.Your main responsibilities as a System Design Authority will involve:Preparing specifications, developing designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carrying out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintainedCarrying out complex technical analysis and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and preparing reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capabilityUndertaking investigations into operational problems or developments and developing and preparing solutionsActing as a lead point of contact with customers and suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectivesSupporting the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids in areas of expertise to facilitate the development of the highest quality bidsSupporting Product Design Certification activities including Product Safety & Environmental matters and Security AccreditationYour skills and qualifications:EssentialDegree in a STEM subject or equivalent qualification or experienceExperience in the "system of systems" approach to Engineering from a design, build and integration aspectMust have held overall responsibility for the System Design from either a product or systems respectDesirable:Possess in depth knowledge of Systems Engineering including interface analysis, System Design and trials and integration supportKnowledge and understanding of a Design Certification processExperience in reviewing bids and programmes at various stages of the life cycleWhat we're looking for in you:You will be a well-motivated individual with a desire to succeed despite setbacks.
