Job description
National travel will be required 1 in 4 weeks (full expenses paid), a full clean drivers licence is require. You must also be eligible for Security Clearance.
The Nuclear Emergency Response Information Management System (NERIMS) is a crisis management system which allows the sharing of critical/non-critical information in the event of a military nuclear incident.
NERIMS is currently deployed to a number of military sites and due to the nature of the design the system maintains 100% availability by incorporating numerous layers of connectivity and redundancy across the entire NERIMS community.
Currently NERIMS is operating in the sustainment phase of its programme, with reliable and proven Lotus Notes software sitting on a robust network infrastructure.
This role will be involved with all software aspects of NERIMS and will expect at least a basic understanding of the entire system including the network it sits on too.
A key facet of the role will be any knowledge/understanding of the OTRS Ticketing system currently used to support NERIMS.
Key Responsibilities:
It is worth noting here that a significant amount of overlap of duties exists between all roles on the NERIMS team. This is due to the nature of the team dynamic and the diverse requirements of the NERIMS system.
Perform both major and minor software upgrades to any part of the NERIMS System following documented software engineering process
Be familiar with the requirements set of the NERIMS system
Identify software improvements
Administer and maintain certain elements of the NERIMS network
Identify certain network issues and provide assistance for successful resolution
Provide exercise support (within and outside the UK)
Internal/Customer/Technical meeting attendance (within and outside the UK)
Attend NERIMS system health checks (within and outside the UK)
Attend NERO activation (within and outside the UK)
Liaise with suppliers for quotes/POs and to solve issues therein
2nd and 3rd line support to NERIMS Service Desk
Ability to build Desktop, Server & Laptop NERIMS systems (to predetermined build specification)
Prepare ROMS/TAFS (with assistance from Technical Lead and Project Manager)
To act as Activity Manager for Post Design Support (PDS) activities following the agreed process to:
Generate, review and maintain the activity document set
Provide required reports to Project Manager when required
To manage allocated PDS activities from inception to successful completion.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
As this is a service-based project and as such individuals must have a willingness to implement, improve and follow process with guidance from senior members of the team.
Experience with OTRS Ticketing systems, AWS & Python would be desirable
Maintain a quality approach to all NERIMS activities
Ability to work well within a small team, while showing drive and personal initiative.
Well developed communication skills (verbal, written and IT-literacy).
Basic knowledge of TCP/IP Networks.
Extensive knowledge of software engineering principles
Willingness to travel, sometimes at short notice.
Qualifications:
Education to degree level in relevant software or systems engineering related discipline
Any equivalent or non-academic experience will be considered
This role is to start ASAP and will pay £28k p/a plus excellent benefits.
