Aspiring Criminal Justice Officer - SEMH Teaching Assistant Position

Psychology, Sociology and Criminology graduates wanted!

This SEMH school are looking for an enthusiastic and sincere individual who is able to understand the importance and what it takes to work with vulnerable students. The school priorities their students at all times, and such candidates will be acting as a teaching assistant to support and encourage the social, emotional, learning, behavioural and personal development of individual children. These children need a supportive individual that can help them progress, helping them attain the abilities needed to be less vulnerable and susceptible to manipulation.

This role will involve working 1:1 and with small groups of students who have been through significant traumas, with a focus on restorative practises. These restorative practises and the basis and underpin everything in which happens within this specialist school.

Assisting students in gaining the independence they need for life outside of school is always a priority. While also giving such students continuous opportunities to focus on, ensuring they do not enter the criminal justice system. This LSA role requires a positive individual, who is able to deploy restorative practices as well as giving some of your professional self to the students. The role specialises in working with students who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues and Wellness concerns. It must always be remembered that each student will have very different objectives in and out of school, some will live in supported living when they leave, and some will go to college. Engaging parents, guardians and the community is a role that the school plays.

It is so important to understand where the children are coming from and what traumas they have been through, with there always being clear objectives set for them, ensuring they feel valued within education in the process. This is a foot in the door for aspiring Criminal and Youth Justice Officers to shadow the work of many professionals, including Clinical Psychologists and Therapists.
