The Role:
The Mechanical Technician reports directly into the Mechanical Maintenance Manager but sits within one of the four Operations departments taking direction from the Area Mechanical Reliability Engineer. Working within the mechanical team to maintain all plant machinery including both proactive planned maintenance and breakdown repair.
Main Tasks and Resposibilities:
Safely applying specialist craft skills for the assembly, dismantling, inspection repair and testing of mechanical equipment
Reading and understanding construction drawings, designs and system schematics to assess equipment, or systems performance and evaluate the cause of any malfunction. Effect necessary repairs and adjustments
Receiving Instructions from the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, Reliability Engineer, Reliability Technician, or from planned lists/CMMS to undertake project and maintenance work on the shift in conjunction with Technicians and other operations/engineering personnel
Supporting a reliability centered maintenance approach to identifying and undertaking maintenance tasks on major process assets
Assisting in ongoing process control and quality improvement developments through liaison with technical staff including product trial management and evaluation
Skills Essential to the Role:
Essential - Time Served Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering NVQ level 3
A grounding in mechanical engineering ideally gained through a combination of a formal apprenticeship including practical and theoretical application, and structured additional learning
Established skills in general fitting, welding, machining, construction, installation and maintenance techniques
Knowledge of the use of precision measurement equipment and instrumentation
An understanding of the use of hydraulics systems
An understanding of codes and symbols used in drawings for mechanical and hydraulic schemes
Computer literacy (ideally conversant in the use of CMMS) and basic office software
Good working knowledge of plant and machinery with the area of responsibility to include fork lift trucks and overhead cranes
