Senior Software Developer - React and/or Ruby on Rails

Competitive Salary - Depending on experience
Option: Mostly Remote
Our team mostly work from home with one-day per month in the office
Equally, the option of a permanent desk in the office if preferred
Option of a 4-day week (pro rata salary/holiday)

We're the largest rock school in Europe, and we're looking for another senior engineer to join our Digital Team. Our HQ is a converted manor house in Liphook, Hampshire, but our Digital Team work mostly remotely with face-to-face meetings in the office as required (you could also have a permanent desk in the office if you prefer).

We might not look like a standard tech company from the outside, but this is a great place to work as a developer. Our tooling and processes have been built from our experience working in big tech companies, so you get the benefits of industry best practice while working in a small, collaborative and inclusive team (there are 10 of us currently).

The Role

The role is to work as a full-stack software developer on internal facing tools used by the Rocksteady team, and external facing products used by our customers and the general public.

Our product roadmap for the year ahead is currently full, and there's lots more we'd like to build, so we're on the lookout for an additional team member.

You will hopefully be pleased to know that we:

Use modern-but-well-established tools (React, Ruby on Rails 6, APIs, React Native, Unity)
Run a continuous integration (CI) and deployment (CD) processes
Have good tests and code coverage
Run code reviews for all work
Have minimal DevOps requirements (managed via Heroku and AWS)
Practice good Product Management, with as little admin as possible
Work in a lovely office, with a lake to sit by if you ever experience "Error: -41"
All work on MacBooks

Skills and Experience

Motivated to build products and tools that make users lives easier
5+ years of software development (more than just websites)
2+ Years of React, React Native, or Ruby at a senior level
Worked in teams of at least 5 developers
Some performance optimisation experience
Some architectural design experiences
Keen to mentor and share knowledge
Willing to compromise on theoretical perfection in order to ship
Happy to swap between multiple projects
Able to work from our office at least one-day per month

Beneficial, but not essential:

Worked on projects with many users
Experience working with offline/online syncing products
