Job description

Fundraising & Development Manager

Maternity cover, with likelihood of becoming permanent.
Full-time. £32-35K pa. Job share considered. Some working from home may be possible

Brooklands Museum, in Surrey, has had several years of success and recognition and has exciting plans for the future. We inspire people to shape the future using Brooklands' history of innovation and endeavour. This focus on the impact Brooklands had in the past and its relevance to today and tomorrow, has helped us form significant partnerships, including a TV series, an exhibition with McLaren Automotive and apprenticeships with Heritage Skills Academy. It has led us to improve our learning and participation STEM programmes, and has won us significant support from individuals, grant givers and businesses, with over £2m raised in the past eighteen months.

We have drawn up a masterplan for the development of the Museum's 32 acre site, which builds on the national recognition received for the £8m Re-engineering Brooklands project, completed in 2017. A prestigious appeal board are ready to help us raise the funds we need to realise our long-term ambitions and we also raise money for our current programmes and projects.

This is an opportunity to work directly with the Chief Executive, an experienced fundraiser, across all areas of fundraising activity, to deliver Brooklands' future. You should be able to develop compelling and credible project proposals and cases for support and present these in person and in writing. You should understand fundraising strategy and cultivation processes and be able to pro-actively support Trustees and Appeal Board members in their work. You should excel at developing warm, professional relationships with a wide range of people. You also need to be good at planning, being pro-active and managing processes and people (especially managing up). Brooklands Museum is a fast paced and fun place to work.

This post is initially offered as maternity cover for the Fundraising and Development Officer, but the Museum's fundraising needs are growing, and it is likely that the position will be made permanent.

We are working on a strategy to make Brooklands Museum more inclusive and representative of our community and we actively welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds. We were a finalist for Surrey Employer of the Year in 2021.
