Summary

We're looking for a passionate and customer focussed Chef to join our team here at Bateman's. If you love to thrive in a busy environment and enjoy putting smiles on customer's faces, we'd love to have you work in our wonderful team.

Hours: This is a fulltime role with an average of 37.50 hours per week

Salary: £20,721 per annum

Contract: Permanent role

What it's like to work here

Surrounded by the wooded landscape of the Sussex Weald, this 17th-century house, with its mullioned windows and oak beams, provided a much needed sanctuary to this world-famous writer and inspired his work. The rooms, described by him as 'untouched and unfaked', remain much as he left them, with oriental rugs and artefacts reflecting his strong association with the East. Kipling wrote Puck of Pook's Hill and Rewards and Fairies at Bateman's, which includes the poem 'If'. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907.Bateman's is very much a family home that feels as though the Kiplings have just gone out for the day.

What you'll be doing

With your passion for food and your appetite to provide an exceptional service to your customers, you'll work with the National Trust Cookbook framework to prepare delicious food. Using your creative skills, you'll use local produce to develop dishes to inspire visitors with our spirit of place. Working alongside the Head Chef/Food & Beverage Manager you'll ensure our menu reflects the seasons, and each dish is fresh, tasty and beautifully presented every time.

As a team, you'll strive for a culture of exceptional service and work effectively to deliver great results. You'll be constantly seeking and developing new income opportunities and working to achieve financial targets and increase margins by minimising waste and controlling costs and resources.

Working alongside the team, you'll ensure everyone is compliant with relevant legislation and internal processes including food hygiene and COSHH procedures. You may also be required, on occasions to supervise volunteers and other team members. You'll be proud to share our valuable work with our customers, and look to maximise sales with new ideas so that the profit can be reinvested back into our conservation work.
